SOLVED - Accelerator pedal one of the rods snapped how to replace please?
Hi,
Cut a long story short the Accelerator stopped working (and its always on a bloody round about!) I found the issue and managed to get it home safe.
What has happened is that when you look into the engine and find the rods that control the Accelerator one has broken (or popped out of a ball or something). Its the one that is about 14cm long with a round ball on each end and the ball slots into this rod. It has come out of the pedal end. I have tried popping it back in with no luck so I have another G wagon for parts how would I go about taking it out and replacing it?
Thanks alot
Joe
Trip to the dealer.
They sell just the ball ends; the older plastic 1988 ones was replaced by a metal one when I did one about a month ago. The metals ones are a real so-and-so to snap on .. the plastic ones can be done by hand.. so ended up with mole-grips and still a pain to get square so it would snap on.
Note you can adjust linkage by screwing these ends in/out so you take the slack out of the accelerator linkage; I found these and having my rubber 90 degree mount the wrong way around was the reason for power loss.. and you don't want to lose power on a 300GD .. even with a turbo! Goes from slow to snail.
Try offering the rod end to the ball end, holding it there, take a set of piliers and with it squeeze them on, hope fully they should pop in.
To remove the accelerator pedal, remove the plastic clip from the base of the a/pedal. With a long nosed set of pliers, pull out.
I think, then you can slide the pedal off to the left and it should come off the joint.

Hi!!!
On my dads Merc (which is the one thats snapped) it is already metal? (I was told by a few people that it was a miltary Gwagon). Looking at it it doesn't appear that you can just replace the ball ends?
Thanks alot
