Does anyone have a recommendation for penetrating oil? Something that works!! I've searched the web with lots of wild claims and even a homebrew mix of automatic transmission fluid and acetone.

Thanks,

James

Hello James,
.
My suggestion for a good penetrating oil would be 'Duck Oil'.  Depending where you want to use it on, leave it applied over night, a little heat applied could be allowed as well.  Please state the actual purpose or state the seizure.

Hi Rakesh...Just general stuff really on my old 460 everything from the self tapping screws holding in the trim sills to bolts on the engine and holding the bumpers on - WD40 doesn't do it and before i start buying stuff like plusgas i wanted to get some expert opinions.

Regards,

James

Wurth Rost Off Ice.........is awesome but expensive.  the best of everything i have tried as it freezes the joint and puts micro cracks in......if you can believe that.

Hello James,

Just to add, these things work well if the penetrating or freeing agent can get into and inbetween the  rusted or seized area.  This in practice is difficult to achieve.  You can add another practice to your technique in removing seized items.  Exercising common sense, firmly tap the head of screw driver or socket, which ever tool you are using to undo, and then try to unscrew. If you get some movement, rather than continue to unscrew continuously, wind back and forth, increasing the amount you unwind as the seizure allows.

Doing this may even shear the screw off, in which case you have an extrusion problem on your hands, this could happen on a tight screw head any way.  Squirt more penetrating fluid  into the threads when and if the screw gives as you to and fro the unwinding.

Cheers,

Colin

Try ferrosol from Bilthamber, I've had much greater success than I've had with WD40.
This is a link to their website.

Their rust treatment and polshes are really excellent too.
