Sill replacement
Hi I'm in the process of repairing my sills which have been affected by rust, not too bad considering she is 32 years old, I was going to fibreglass and fill but I'd prefer to weld new metal if possible. My question is has anyone used the repair panels (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360652173598?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=...) ?
Trouble is they don't look exactly like mine, my sills are rusty only on the outside, whereas these may be for the top?
Peter suggests making new pieces but this is a bit beyond me.
Any advice offered or suggestions much appreciated
I am having a guess that, this part you have shown is the inner-front sill for the left hand side. The two holes could be for the side step captivated nuts. (fits inner-under side, hence looks different)
Which sills are you looking to replace, outers or inners? Doing jobs like this one needs to be weary that it could lead onto bigger jobs. Sill parts are largely dealer items only.
Good luck.
Hi Tony
As per PM they look OK to me, that would be the right one for a 460 5 Door LWB, the section at the right end with the 2 large holes fits behind the A post section of the sill, so you have the door appurture sections to the left and then just before the 2 holes the pressing dips inwards to slot behind the 12"-18" A post section

First one shows Outer Sills Item 51 and Front A Post Item 59 sections (Item 50 is SWB)
Second shows Inner Sills Items 20 and 24

Thoughts on sills !
Decide if yr G is a keeper...if you are going to only own it for a year or less fill it...if as I suspect you have an actual hole you have to WELD it...just a normal mot prep type job...not too challenging
Warning - as also posted - the more you go into this type of repair the more corrosion you will find.
G's have a way of rusting from the inside out...just a few small rust bubbles can end up as major jobs.
Advice ? get a 5'' a/grinder and some 80 grit flappy discs and grind out all rust bubbles, get vehicle up in the air and check all inner surfaces....get hot air gun on any damaged area of under seal and remove to clean metal
Hours of fun await
I owe the forum an apology, my guess has been proven wrong! I had thought the part to be an inner sill, infact it is the left-front sill shown from the inside face rather than the out side face - sorry.
A little knowledge can be stupid, in this case.
Yeah go and hang your head in shame!

Actually, I have covered my face in pie - its sweeter.
Hi Rakesh
thanks for the reply, its just the outers, the other parts are unaffected. Maybe I'll just fibreglass them as its not too extensive
