I am getting to the end of the exhaustive list of things I have been doing to get my G full functioning, I was looking for anything that maybe needs added to my service list!

Engine oil and filter
Gearbox oil
Diff oil
Transfer box oil
Grease propshaft UJ's
Brake fluid change
Coolant change
Front Swivel joint topped up with grease
Diff lock fluid changed (plus get my back diff lock working)
Get my doors opening more smoothly

Anything else?

I have a few general items to finish off the get it all functioning the way it left the factory but I am charging through them!

Re: Service and general tidy up

 Hi,

What model is it? Things I can think of :

Powersteering filter is probably worthwhile if you don't know when it was last done (powersteering is current on my list at the moment!)
Do all electrics work as they should? How about rust generally? Replacing Tie and Drag link gaiters *before* they split and corrode the balljoint is money well spent (again a current point of pain!)

Cheers,

Ben

Spend some time oiling door hinges, trying to get oil in there, do not forget back door, new hinges pricey!

You have largely covered everything you ought to, but if you are struggling for more things to do, depending upon your engine; one of the items easily overlooked in service and maintenance is valve clearances - very important for engine performance and fuel economy.

So, if you have adjustable valves, have the clearances checked and adjusted as necessary.

Sorry its a 300ges auto 1991

The doors are well stiff, like closing a farm gate, they have had a good going over with SAS spray as well to no avail

Electric ok, apart from the buzzer thing when you open the door with the lights on, I have a new cd player to fit from a ML class, that will be dead easy!

Power steering will be added on!!

Just about halfway through the above list plus a pile of extras found during repairs and the bloody rear diff drain plug is corroded that much is doesnt even look like a diff plug :-(

I have been at it with everything, I can hammer in there and there is no signs of budging, any quick tips! I have been soaking it in sas spray for the past month as it looked a problem, can i heat this or would this cause damage to the diff?

Re: Service and general tidy up

My suggestion would be to carefully and gently heat the diff surrounding the drain plug, do not apply heat to the plug, just surrounding area of the diff.  Spray some freezing spray on the drain plug only; try to release the drain plug.

Seems illogical, but before unwinding, try tightening just a touch and immediately unwind.   If the plug begins to move; by a to-ing and fro-ing action unwind the plug a little at a time until you achieve fluid motion.

Good Luck,

Ps pre-order a drain plug in case removal of the current one damages the head of the plug.

Torque the plug at a 100Nm.  The threads are tapered hence came be easily over tightened.

Done! heating did the trick! it took abit of heat, the old propane and oxygen got it hot quick though!
