Yep, I liked the review.  He liked throwing it about like a rally car but hey, a bit of fun when its not your car is fine.
Is it me, or it seems that since the re-launch of the RHD, the emphasis for journo's has been on the G being 'handbuilt' (like a Rolls ued to be?).   I don't recall the 'handbuilt' label as much last year or before.  Lets face it - handbuilt has some kudos, but can also be a by-word for 'excuse the quaint and dated look inside because it was tediously snapped together like a lego kit by a real person' ?  Lets hope the quality remains as legendary as before they started that marketing spin - I am sure it does and more.

Apparently there is a review of G versus Range Rover in Top Gear magazine this past month. Not seen it as yet but the colleague who told me about it, is going to scan and email it to me. Any good?

Re: Review of G350 by Evo

There is a review in latest Top Gear Mag comparing Range Rover TDV8 with G350. Top Gear admit that it's probably not a fair comparison as the G is closer in ethos and execution to a Defender than RR. Or at least midway between the two.
Top Gear Verdict reads: "The Range Rover is better in every way and so steamrollers the G-Class. But there's something about the Merc's honesty that makes us want one. Quite badly."

Mmm! Maybe I won't chase up the email then. Did you see the Top Gear review Richard Hammond did in a G going on about the fact that he thought it was the coolest vehicle EVER? He was almost beside himself with excitement

You're right - Richard Hammond did do good review on Top Gear a few years back of a G55 including off road and town driving and concluded that G was perhaps the cooloest car ever ........ It's still available on You Tube; type in: Top Gear Mercedes Benz G55 AMG Kompressor. Enjoy!

UNQUOTE

What a sad piece of tabloid chauvinism.... the British motoring press has learnt nothing in the last 30 years: it continues to think that anything leaving Solihull is better than anything leaving Graz, but the fact is that nobody wants a 20-year old RR and yet W463 G-Wagens command strong money still today... people are voting with their pockets!

Eat it, Clakson !

earlier generations of RR always triumphed in the comparisons too.

Good point, well made! The British Motoring press also seem to have conveniently forgotten that Range Rover are not even owned by a British company any more either

Speaking as one who has a 17 year old W463
