I'm still getting to know my G, so this might be a stupid question.

For your info it's a w460 230GE.

I am considering removing the spots at the front. Purely cosmetic, would like to strip it back as much as possible.

So my questions are:

Will I still have sufficient light without them? Full beam etc.

Secondly, how easy are they to remove? Wiring etc.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Removing Spotlights

To remove the spot or fog lights is relatively easy; dependent on the sort of tools you have to an extent.

You can answer which of the two you have. Do these light up on high beam? If not, it will be obvious they are fog lamps as they would work with the fog lamp on.

The normal head light and high beam if correctly set up are adequate for normal road use and night driving, even on country roads which are unlit. If you are considering to remove the fog lights, this will mean you could be at a disadvantage under those conditions.

However, to remove the lamps is easy. The lamp is mounted onto a bracket pinching onto the base of the lamp. The pinching force is by a nut and bolt arrangement. Undo the nut and bolt and remove. The lamp should separate from the bracket.  Now you have a choice in your actions; 1) unscrew the lamp and remove the connection leads from the lamp. Insulate the lead ends and tuck the leads into the grille out of sight. 2) You may chop the leads from outside of the lamp body and insulate the ends and tuck away into the grille. This saves on dismantling the lamp.

Now is the difficult part. Removing the bracket from the bumper. The difficulty depends upon the tooling you have or not.

Remove the nut holding the bracket. This is easier said than done, the difficulty is in the lack of space to maneuver the spanner. I suggest you tie a string to the spanner handle so you can easily fish it out every time it drops or falls into the bumper.

If this is difficult, you may then, remove the bumper which is held by two 19mm bolts either side of the chassis.

Re: Removing Spotlights

Thanks Rakesh,

I've tried them out and they are only used as the fog lights. As the fog lights are not inluced in an MOT test, I am considering removing the spots for a cleaner look.

Will let you know how I get on whe I try to remove them.
