Morning all

My 1992 G300 D has central locking operated by the key in the lock, but I would like to fit a system to operate it remotely from a fob.

Has anyone ever done this retrofit?

If yes could you recommend a "kit" as there are loads available on-line.

Thanks in advance.

Try to see what Spal can do.  They may have an add on system to upgrade your current one.

UPDATE

It has transpired that the G did have remote locking as standard. Unfortunately the fob has been lost at some point.

Does anyone know where a new fob could be obtained?

Cheers

Ps. Thanks Piston, I had a look at their site, and if I have no joy getting a replacement fob, I will see what they can do.

Re: REMOTE Central Locking, Retrofit

I spoke to a nice man at Mercedes Guildford........ love it when they say "a G what? Are you sure its a Mercedes sir?"...... who tells me that the alarm/immobilizer/remote central locking were "an outside influence". I thought it was a fob off (pardon the pun), but when I looked at the siren under the bonnet, I saw the the alrm siren thingy was made by Piranha so now I'm not too sure. He said my best bet would be to go to a car stereo/security shop and see if they can identify the model and acquire a new fob...... I am wondering if I would be better off just getting a new alarm fitted that controls the central locking..

Thanks for the links, I will continue to investigate.

Re: REMOTE Central Locking, Retrofit

I owned a 92G which had remote cl and alarm fitted. The UK dealers used to fit the system when the Gs were delivered from the factory. Mine had a Scorpian system which I believe was commonly fitted in UK to other models also. Fortunately both my fobs were given to me by the previous owner and worked correctly. I read some time ago on the MB club forum that theScorpian fob supply has long since gone.
Best bet would be to install a new system with imobiliser, alarm and cl all remote controled. Cat 1 approved it will reduce your insurance premium too

Hi Mark

No, the first time it said something about an un-reecognised recipient name and the second time it said there was an error with the server or something and closed the browser.

Sorry I cant be more help.

Re: REMOTE Central Locking, Retrofit

Hi Everyone,

Strangely enough, I had a new alarm, Immodiliser and automated central locking fitted on Friday. My G has electronic central locking which I wanted to automate.  Have to day the alarm and the immobiliser are fine, but the automated central locking has problems. The auto doesn't work, and the operation with the key doesn't work now either !!!

Can anyone assist.... Maybe it's a relay blown ??

Thanks.

Pete.

Re: REMOTE Central Locking, Retrofit

Do you hear the central locking solenoids activating with key or fob?

Does the lock not operate with key or are you saying there is still no central locking when operated with key?

What make of systems have you employed for the alarm/immobilser?

I feel somehow the power to your standard central locking control unit has been disconnected and the remote is not properly hooked up. If the control unit is not wird up, then I suspect the central locking solenoids will not be heard  activating.

Re: REMOTE Central Locking, Retrofit

We had a similar problem when we installed my clifford alarm, the alarm operates a second lock motor in the drivers door which effectively does what the key does, all the locks are switched from this lock, mine didn't work because this wasn't aligned properly and was jamming.

Watch if the lock button is going up and down on the inside of the door,   when it's closed of course

Good luck Gordon
