Radiator pressure cap rating?
I'd like a stainless cap for my new rad, but have seen conflicting data on the correct pressure rating (few @ 13PSI, some at 15PSI), does anyone know definitively what it should be for the 300GD?
Also trying to track down one of the metal oil filler caps, but they don't seem to come up very often.. just in case anyone has one knocking around!
Who has given you this data? I suspect your enquiries have been with a factor, because the dealer do not concern them self with such specifications only part numbers.
I will have to try and get an answer from M/B on this. In the mean time, I am aware the higher rated pressure cap increases the boiling point of water preventing higher coolant temperatures at altitude driving. So this becomes useful at high altitude driving, i.e.hills and mountains etc. Thus the lower rated caps are for lower altitude Plains and Sea level driving.
Cheers,
The standard radiator pressure cap for your chassis number is part number A461 501 00 15.
We keep that in stock and the cap is marked with "100"
I assume this is a metric measurement of 100 kPa (KiloPascal)
100 kPa converts to 14.50 psi or 1 bar
Hope this helps

Thanks Rakesh. I did some reading around and it seems that 7,13 and 15 PSI are all available so perhaps I'll just go with a 13 as the middle ground unless MB come back with something.
