As it was such a nice day yeasterday I pottered about giving the G a bit of TLC. Whilst Gummi Pfleg'ing the seals I was surprised at just how supple they were. After 22years I had expecting them to be showing some signs of age, not a hint, almost like new.

Only exception being the external window scraper whatsits which Santa Helme has replaced. All I need to do now is work out how to fit them.

Seats came up a treat too courtesy of Meguires.

Re: Quality of seals

Just fitted two new window scrapers courtsey of Mr Helme.

The first one will take ages the second about 15 minutes.

They are held in place by six spring clips. I soaked these in WD40 prior to removing the old scraper. You need to prize each clip open with a sharp ended screwdriver and ease the old scraper out one clip at a time. Take great care to avoid breaking the clips as replacing these looks very tricky.

Reverse the operation to put the new one in makng sure it is position correctly when sliding it into the first clip.Once in all six clips gently tap the scraper firmly into place.

Good luck

Re: Quality of seals

I'm sure your very helpful instructions would be agreat help to someone who had half an idea of what they were doing........however........

I'm actually reasonably handy, but with this I have no idea where to start. I like Mrs Beaton recipes. First remove the Pheasant from the pantry.......

So in attempting this transplant, is it done from the inside or the outside, ie do the cards need to come off? Do the windows need to be up or down during the operation? How much anesthetic does the surgeon need?

You get my drift.....idiots guide appreciated!!!

Re: Quality of seals

I did mine without recourse to any dismantelling of the car (or use of anesthetic) however a glass of wine might help prior to attempting this job.

With the door open wind the window right down and you should be able to see the six clips just below the scraper attached to the inside of the door panel. There should be just enough room to get at the clips with the screwdriver.

Like the pheasent bast the clips (in WD40) first before trying to prize them open to remove the old scraper. Hopefull this will get you started.

I will look in my Mrs Beaton's this evening for the Pheasent recipe.
