Plz. Help! trouble after transplanting Lexus engine in my G
Hi there,
long story short....
I transplanted a 4 liter V8 engine into my 1994 G320 for many obvious reason.
the transplant itself went really well, except some issues.
the main issue is:
the new transmission left less clearance between it and the transfer case about 13 inches
the transmission and the transfer case are not aligned
so we had to come up with something
so a shaft like joint with u-joint configuration in the middle was fabricated
it worked fine in the beginning
but we noticed strong vibration
i thought it was due ot worn out T/C bushings
but after 4 days of testing the vibration got really strong and at various speed levels
then i was testing it to narrow down the source of the vibration, I put the T/C in N, put the trans. im D, gave it some gas and there was the vibration, it got so strong it tore and threw out the shaft boot of the fabricated link.
my question now:
- is it a problem of mking sure the link is balanced, ir is it too short, or is the design idea flawed?
- any other ideas you guys can think of?
- my other options would be taking off the transfer case and make the truck 2WD
Before
After
hi. can't see the pictures. could you try posting them again as they would give us all a better idea of what you're talking about. thanks/ph
Make it 2wd easy as that!
or fit a 500 or 560 s-class engine from a F-plate onwards.
If you made a shaft like joint with A uj in the middle, it will definitely vibrate. It needs 2 uj's, one at each end to allow the gearbox and tranfer case some movement in the vertical plane. There must also be a splined slide to allow movement in the horizontal plane. If I understand corectly what's been done, there's no way it would work without destroying something. No reason why it shouldn't work though if done properly. Nice engine by the way. Were there many electronics to incorporate?
you absolutely need 2, one at each flange, and the shaft or 1 uj splined. Should be able to make it fit as they can be pretty much back to back. Being so short though, the alignment of the 2 shafts becomes more critical.
Oops
I do not think anyone on this forum has tried this conversion
Hey Stig you seem to be giving him some pretty good advice.
Did you make your last post after a few Saturday night drams :)
Yeah might have, sorry
actually the picture was for the exterior just to show my progress
i don't know why the pictures can't be shown, is it a membership thing?
