For some totally unknown reason, the display of the outside temperature in the instrument panel has developed a "smudge" right in the middle of the display- as if someone had poured some ink in it. The display is still functioning as I can still read the + 0r - signs as well as the last  decimal digits of the temperature. Any idea if I can remove this and clean it up or replace it? Or do I need to replace the entire panel???

Re: Outside temperature display

Your digital panel has leaked, there is no repairing it, just replacement.

The part number you want is:  000 542 7127 - outside temp. display.  Please get your dealer to double check this number against the chassis number of your vehicle.  I have used only a reference vehicle to come up with this number, hence it is not gauranteed!

Cheers,

Hi  Rakesh
You are right about the   part  number.I am nort sure that the quoted price of £487.20 +VAT is the correct one. Surely it cannot cost that much !!

Re: Outside temperature display

REPLY TO THREAD NUMBER 2:

i felt sure this display was fitted to the W124 Instrument panels, but checking for the comparison of part numbers on the W124s' and others; I can not seem to see any fitted to those models!  The W126 show an out side temp. gauge fitted, but the part number is different.

I was going to suggest to salvage one from a scrap vehicle but my idea has to go back to the "drawing board".

I would take up M2dxb's suggestion and buy one from the ebay site he has posted.

If you dare, ask your local dealer to cross reference the part number to see which vehicles, it was fitted to, in the hope it could be found from a salvaged vehicle.

Cheers,

Re: Outside temperature display

Hi
I can confirm that the display in the 463 G wagon is the same part number as in the W124 series saloon and estate car from  1990 to 1995>>>>>>>. unfortunately you have extract the instrument cluster from the housing which involves removing the steering wheel ( 27mm socket ) and two thin strips of metal 10mm wide to hook the sides of the cluster and lever it out enough to get hold of ..or find a  car breaker with clusters removed ( which will probably make the item costly ) the part number is      A000 542 71 27
