Re: Now this would make an interesting engine ...

wonder where the rest of it went?

Could it work? at 250HP, would be nice in a SWB but what about parts and (not being technicall) could it fit in the bay of  G?

Nice find though.

They are about the same size as a M116/117 , i think you could get it to run on magasquirt , with the right throttle bodies . Bit heavy but soooo much torque , gearbox would have to be a W3A050 probably .....epic engines though , fondly remember driving 450 SEL, 6.9's very fast in their day only big saloon i have ever driven, that did'nt stop accelerating........................................

Re: Now this would make an interesting engine ...

 Hi Steve

I'd vouch for this engine model: I had a 300SEL 6.3 for about two years. fantastic car!

This engine will fit into a G.....apparently it was done on a couple of competition 460s in the early 80s by amateur hill rally racers. The only issue with it is setting up the injection pump and in this auction it is missing. these can't be an easy item to source but there may be a solution. this was one of the first fuel injected engines, which effectively used a diesel-like fuel injection pump/injection system and 'petrolised' it. Maybe if one was a dab hand at injection pumps, one could come up with an alternative from the diesel market, or fit an after-market modern injection pack on it instead.

....just don't expect good fuel economy. If memory serves me right, even with the relatively lightweight body of the 300SEL, my mileage always hovered around the low teens......but it was the type of car you couldn't help but to drive: the noise above 3500rpm was addictive, better than the modern equivalent V8 roars!

so who is feeling brave?.....................would be a great engine to have in a G.

One memory i have is permanantly etched into my head......driving a white 450 SEL 6.9 through Hull town center....the exhaust had snapped at both downpipes.....it was a big 4 door dragster venting nearly 7 litres streight to atmosphere...windows were rattling in their frames.......
