Hi G-wagen specialists,

there is a noise at the back of my truck that is hard to identify ; i went to the dealer twice and they can't fix it and i know why. The problem is when you close the rear door, the noise is going away for about 3 to 5 kilometers and then gradually come back ; i stop on the side of the road, open and close the door, it goes away for another 5 kilometers than come back. My wife think i should go see the psychiatrist but i don't agree.

Help me !

Re: Noise

Have you mentioned to your Garage or Dealer that the noise comes after driving for a few Kilometers?

I would suggest, some else do the driving and you sit in the back to try and pin point the area from where the noise is eminating from.

Apply some 'Vasaline' to the top locating pin of the door.  Assuming, you have a single rear door, looking at the vehicle from the rear, this pin is located at the top-left of the door as you open it.  Spray the door seal with some silicone spray or what ever seal lubricants are supplied, locally to you.

Try and remove the Spare wheel and check for noise.  The wheel carrier bolts have been known to loosen, check their tightens.

Check for the tail gate alignment, press the door handle to open the door, as the door releases from the latch, watch the door.  If the body line of the door drops as it leaves the latch, the door probably needs re-aligning, you may notice the door does not shut easily under these conditions.

Internal panels and the rear wiper cover can eminate noise; noises from here will need some packing out, or new door panel clips fitting.

Do not over look the tightness of the door hinge bolts.  Check the rear wiring loom runing in the door to see if the noise eminates from there.

Finally, turn on your radio.

Good luck,

Re: Noise

Hi,

no i did not mentioned to the dealer how the door was behaving but i will. Regarding the spare tire assembly, i removed everything related to the spare tire last spring for the same reasons you mentioned above but i will apply the silicone on the weather strip and check for that pin.

Thank you !

Re: Noise

Hi Hus,

my Gwagen is a 2003 G 500 ; the noise is like a metal-rubber or metal-metal rubbing noise. You can ear it in any situation even at 1 mph when i get out of my driveway at my house. Recently, i noticed that if i close my rear door, the noise disappear for about 5 miles then come back gradually. I'm about to apply a few tricks that some friends from GWOA told me ; if you have some new ideas, i'm listening !

Thank you - Marc
