New/Old G463
well done...but im guesing your wont be doing another one in a hurry !
As a humble owner of an 83 460 280 GE
ok I am not being judgemental but having just found this thread I am really disappointed in the way that some of you have attacked the restoration project.
a cost factor is one thing, practical and common sense are two words that do not exist in the mind of any G wagon owner as I am sure a fraction of us actually use them for business or farming where they pay for themselves.
As I understand it we have them because they hold a certain amount of appeal to us as individuals and not to extend our masculinity well in some cases may be.
what I like about the G wagon community is there is within the label ' G Wagon' a blanket which covers a wide range of vehicles in many colour ways and styles this is surely a good thing that we all Have different tastes and opinions. We are all individuals after all.
i am a jewelery designer by trade and I for one hate anything that is generic it suits some people and not others which is both fine.
We should applaud this guy for his determination to complete this amazing and I am sure at times soul destroying project, and lets face it that we are all doing slowly over the years as generals upkeep our cars anyway lol.
i am going to deliberately one day do a custom job on a G wagon like rat look to a brand new G63 just to incite the vultures in those of you that claim to be purists lol
I am sure If some of you were honest it was jealousy more than personal criticism. We
are a unique group of guys (and women) we should try to be less critical of anyone who wants to make there G individual, so who cares if its used on road off road or if its wrapped in vinyl or even duck tape or cost £100,000 to restore ! lol the fact is that these G wagons are a marvel of engineering and certainly Design genius with such simple lines that they have beaten any Mercedes ever produced in long term production times.
Also pay homage to the deceased Shah of Iran cos if it wasn't for him owning a huge share in Mercedes back in the day and commissioning the G wagon to be created we would all be on the Land Rover forum or Toyoat FJ forum lol
It's just a car not a life partner, and the only jealousy I feel is to owners of Pinzgaur's or if I want to cover distance quickly something that's fast and can corner.
As for engineering excellence, I'm not sure there has been much in the way of progress since the 1st w463's diesel tech aside. The latest g's seem to be designed for fashion victims and hugely overpriced too
Agreed.
Taste is generally a matter of preference, but marble and gold belong in Saudi bathrooms, not German vehicles with military provenance!
I think comments were fair and good luck to the seller that he achieved his price - someone obviously judged it good value.. Not one for me though.
