I have just come home from the Mercedes-Benz offices in Melbourne after being invited down to have a look at the first of the production military G's as they were being prepared for delivery to the Australian Army. The place is really buzzing down there and there are more vehicles on "the water" and in production. While there are a few changes to production since the 9 prototypes, probably the most interesting model variant was a 6x6 soft top! This is going to be utilised by special forces and will ultimately be equipped with a module incorporating machine gun mount and capacity for 16 fuel cans and I can't remember how many water. This is on top of the 3 on-board fuel tanks so it will have a decent range. You might also noticed a slightly revised side bar/step, 'soft' doors, folding or removable windscreen and more (I had better save something for G'ocentric!). I'm sure that the observant of you will notice a few other changes. Unfortunately I didn't have Carte Blanche with the camera. Many thanks to Mercedes-Benz Australia Pacific Pty Ltd for indulging AGOA once again and particular thanks to the Overlander Team.

I'm liking the bumper, looks a strong bit of kit, factory fitted or australia manufactured ?

The bar work is all factory fitted to the ADF specification including the winch cradle but as with a lot of the modifications (including the chassis rustproofing) it will be no doubt be rolled out into other production vehicles.

 Hmmmmmm Six wheel Drive...... Nice.

BTW I hope you are all well down there and that none of the flooding has affected you.

Thanks for the thoughts regarding the flooding. So far it seems that our members have been spared but it is still not over with parts of Victoria expecting flood peaks today. Clean-up/repair/rebuild will be huge.

Re: Newest Military G

Hi John,     did you note any specification changes in the G Professional for 2011?  I came across a G 300 CDi on www.mobile.de with electric winders for the front windows and wondered whether this was a one-off or whether it has been added as an option for 2011.

Rick.
