Hi Gents,

First time G owner and new to the UK, recently relocated from downunder.

Couldnt bring myself to buying a new Discovery or Defender when these things are so well built for their time. Also they are fairly rare in Aus hence the enthuisiasm in getting one here.

Had been in the family from 89' untill about end 2011 and had two different owners since, owned around the London area. Has been resprayed (windows out) around 2007 with some early signs of spots that need treatment now which I will attend to.

It's a 89' 300GD. 5 speed SWB. Good nic inside and plenty of minor things to do as it is my daily driver.

Has a TB Turbo that was fitted as far as I can tell from the reciepts in 89' as soon as it was bought. When the engine get's rebuilt (currenlty a bit smokey when cold) it will likely go and just get a nice refreshed NA 617 in her.

Will upload pics as and when we get it kitted out. Have a bullet proof mountain bike rack coming for it so need to modify the standard tow bar and fabricate a reese hitch for it. Will be kitted out with a roof rack and roof tent soon enough to get out and do some camping.

My poor Datsun 1600 (510) that was in the process of being rebuilt for tarmac rallies has again taken second place for the time being.

Only 4 weeks since I drove her up from London and I'm hooked already, there a great car!

Cheers,

Brett

Re: New member Scotland

Can you get it re-gassed? I was told with my 92 Saab that the gas is no longer allowed for that age by the bloody EU regulations so would have to replace the whole of the aircon system to make it compatible. Decided cost-wise therefore, the only aircon I need is to open the roof when it is hot otherwise no point in having a convertible.

Yes, but yours is a lot newer so it wouldn't be a problem as far as the EU is concerned

Re: New member Scotland

Thanks Guys for the intro.

Have been doing a few things on her already.

Blower motor or resistor has gone, attemping to remove it via the air intake. Interior has been stripped for a good clean.

All fender extensions and bumpers have come off to strip back all the locations that have minor rust/bubbles in the paint. Get it done early, kill the rust and paint/blend in the sections that have been repaired.

Nothing major found so far which is good just the usual inside the guards and around the holes for the trim.

Re the Datsun. It is a 1968 so the rarer of the models and less rust as supposedly they used better steel. It is on a rotisery at the moment so not much to show, all the rust has been cut out with repair panels welded in and lead wiped. Will be painted in original baby blue.

Re: New member Scotland

can't see anything to worry about in those pictures, make sure the area around the rear lights is free of cack mud etc as this holds water and can rot out the rear 1/4 panels
