smileyHello everyone,

Have just managed to get my hands on a 1991 W463 300GES SWB after a 6 year gap having to let the previous 1988 280GE SWB had to go to pay for new sofas in the conversatory! Mortgage should have now been paid up but the bloody endowments  came up 1000's short so a mid-life crisis moment came when I persuaded the mrs that if she had her way with getting a hymer nova caravan we would definitely need  another G Wagen that would be capable of towing it :-)

Alas I now have another G Wagen and am trying to get her into tip top condition to last another 22 years....!

I have been a member of several car forums and have found the format , general banter and quality of information fantastic and unlike some other forums everyone seems willing to share and help in any way they can.

Like most I want to get my G looking good but also able to have some fun and be practical to tow the caravan to some sites where me and wife can enjoy the dog and have the kids just visit for BBQ etc...

After buying my G as known when I bought it there were several jobs that needed doing :-

- Front bearing and hub seals

- Steering damper

- Bits of trim and a full service.

Thank to 'The Oracle' of G Wagen parts AKA Gav Helme I now have all the parts on order from Gav and have my local country garage ready to get the steering juddered a thing of the past.......thanks Gav

Other pieces of information I will be scouring the forum for are :-

- leather seats (w202 I have found a good new set and want to know how to use skins to cover the rear of w463?)

- leaking water in drivers footwell ( have tried blockages and now looking a front screen etc)

- to gas conversion or to not......!

- bought some 18 inch Brabus wheels purely for road use and keep the old alloys for some off road fun.

- bought a side step for practicality in getting old grandparent in :-)

- £39 for reversing camera that fits the hole of old airiel mounting perfectly.....

Thanks to the oracle of G Wagen parts

Welcome to the club and forum,

Just thought I 'd inform you that, it is quite common for worn wiper spindles to allow for water leaks into the consol and foot wells.

Going for the windscreen should be a latter consideration.

Conversion to LPG is only economical if you are doing over 12,000 miles.

Welcome. I'm driving fairly often along the A47 'tween P/boro and Norwich for work in a blue LWB. Where are you?

Roly,

Will keep and eye out for you but I will be in my works E250 Estate......company car that they wanted £900 to fit a tow bar that would have been wasted dose when lease runs out, Hence the purchase another G to tow the caravan.....watch out for the A47 tractors!

Thanks Tim
