Hello Bill,

Welcome to the GWOA, firstly.

To answer your question, the hubs are filled with chassis grease.

Basically, wheels off, working to health and safety regulations, using adequate axle stands.

Undo the either hexangle or allen key plug, turn the hub to the opposite lock from the side you are working at, and using a rubber extension, fitted to the grease gun; guide or feed the rubber extension into the hub and start pumping.  Pump until the grease starts to show or pump out at the plug hole.

CAUTION:

Make sure NO one is around at the steering wheel playing or turns the hub, if you have a finger in the plug hole - YOU WILL LOOSE IT!

Torque for the plug, on either head is 100Nm.
Steel Wheel - 180 Nm.
Alloy wheel - 110Nm.

Cheers,

Re: new to GWOA

14mm hex to undo the plug and you ought to be able to reach without taking off the wheels

Re: new to GWOA

hi thanks for reply, Im a 62 year Diamond Mounter dealing in high end jewellery trade, been retired from Asprey & Garrards  few years back and now work few days a week doing private work for customers.
I  d always wanted a G wagen, we have a 400ft steep drive and my wife's audi Quattro (on snow tyres) struggles to get up it when we get 18" of snow! Dying to see how the g will deal with it!
Closely follow F1 and love motors in general, going to Silverstone for a Cayennne  4x4 ride and skid pan attempt, should be fun!
