Members Vehicle data.
My plea to the Club and its members is, for the Club, to include members’ vehicle details to include: Model and designation GEL/GES or GDL/GDS, Chassis No: Engine no: Auto (3-7 speed)/Manual (4/5 speed), RHD/LHD and Year of Registration.
This information could be included in the avatar profile of each member, or if possible, to have authorised access to this information to certain authorised committee members and the Technical adviser to access as and when required.
Ps. I have noticed that, I am not even listed as a committee member.
Preferably, the full Registration number (for parts enquiries from parts factors) should also be included. I suspect, some people may have issues giving this amount of information, more so, regarding full Registration number, but in trying to help with some enquiries, a lot of my time, in the attempt to help with issues is frankly wasted. This, I can ill afford.
From the members, volunteering this information, would help replying their enquiries sensibly. Please do this until, the Club adapts this practice. Mention which side of the vehicle any part or complaint is at.
Do add your comments on this. It would be useful to learn how members feel or be constructive about the topic.
Dangerous level of info to have online.
I would suggest that we PM send this info to you .. you then throw it in a spreadsheet to build up database that you can use for your troubleshooting. You would only need a few examples to be able to build up enough to look up EPC and it would be secure with you..
That is the way I did it when doing technical help on grey imports verus offical ones on Japan built cars where dealers would not play ball on supplying parts.
is it not easier rakesh, to pm the indivdual that has the problem, for them to give you the details to enable you to help, doesnt need to be posted on the forum or a data base either in my eyes.
Rakesh,
Answer would be a preprogrammed/laid out form which encourages the asker to fill out their details.. could even have that as your first response. There could be "contact Technical" button which led them into that form but suspect that this would lead to even more contacts/workload for you with those barely readable "special" emails that some folk splurgh out that are desperate yet do not attach brain to keyboard..
Messrs mgray and peter perfect,
Thank you for your responses, I do appreciate your input. It is quickly becoming apparent that Confidentially is of issue and I accept that.
You, both mentioned PM’s, which is fine, but it becomes a” tennis match”, one volley to get the info, next, a return volley of the info. Only thing is, the return volley may not be instantaneous, during which time, I could have been available to reply back – this delays things unnecessarily. I was trying to become a little more efficient and make the process automated.
Back to the drawing board it is then,” he says kicking the cat in his way.......” (Figure of speech, as it were, did not really happen – you cat lovers).
