Hi All
According to the "Completed Listings" section of E'Bay only two G's of any type/model sold in the last two weeks and the highest price indicated was GBP 2500 which is not all together fact as the final settlement figure is seldom published...
Lots of availability Autotrader-Pistonheads-E'bay totalling some 42 G's  ...worth watching if you are in the market for a change..not so good for the "distressed" seller though!!! large discounts for new RHD models as well....

Re: Market trends

I hope that wasn't a 463 for 2.5k!

I tried to emulate your method but could only come up with 8 Gs under completed listings, after going to Motors>Mercedes>G-class. None of them had the red "sold" rectangle though.

Re: Market trends

What discounts are avaliable on new G Wagens?

If what people ask on autotrader is a guide prices must be at an all time high.

1991 300GEL, 181000miles, £24,900 !!!! must be a typo

Re: Market trends

 Interesting thread.... had my G 'semi' on the market and had two types of takers;

Traders willing to take it off my hands for as little as 19K in one case the most from a trader was around the 24K and What I would call genuine purchacers were between 29k to full asking price 34.5K. This for a RHD 463 G500, 2001, FMBSH. 114K Miles

Wanting to keep in a G I did do some looking around, but the best I could find was a RHD 463 300GD 80K miles FMBSH, but was beten to it by someone who then shipped it out to Japan I think it went for 17-18K.

I suppose a G is worth what someone is willing to pay, however unless there was a massive discount on a new one, I think most people would settle for a RR, which on the surface seems a more luxurious vehicle, or something Japanese, which looks to offer VFM.

By the way MB is pushing the G, one is wondering of they are about to call time on it or try somthing new?

Re: Market trends

Gents - On that note I need your advice:  My ex has Tim Carnells old 300GEL and it is in a state!  Mileage 193000, broken prop shaft and probably dead gearbox (no drive at all) and possibly damaged transfer box too.  See attached photos.  The question is what is it worth.  What I want to do is buy it off her at a" fair price" and then remove the good bits and put them on my much better same age 463 300GDL.  The seats will be swapped - 300GDL seat are plastic and need seam repairs.  The 300GEL will then be sold as a "project" for someone better equipped than I !
Your thoughts will be MUCH appreciated.

Re: Market trends

 would factor in the following;

Any MOT?
Any Tax?
How well one get on with the Ex?
Does she read this forum?

A) If no to the above and she would like it out of her way, you could be cheeky and say you will only charge her £100 to take it off her hands
b) if not a between £250 and £400
c) Add up value of the bits you want and then take away 60-80%?
or
d) Ask fixwin??? :)

Hope this is of some use / ideas

Re: Market trends

Hi All
having been told today by a potential seller that "  well a new one costs over £80.000 " perhaps sellers are comparing older Gs' to new prices....might explain why there are so many for sale ar unrealistic prices.....

Re: Market trends

That 300 ge of your ex wife's, was originally my ex wife's before tim bought it, I paid £11,500 for that car in 1998 ! What mess, but to be honest wouldn't take alot tom get it looking nice, new mirror, paint bumper and sort spindles out and clean minge valve in air box. Give her £1000' gearbox will cost you £1500, paint £500 and engine will last for ever, why did she let it get it such a mess :o(

Re: Market trends

PeterPerfect - it is a small world is it not!  Did you put the ORC bits on or did Tim?  What the **** is the minge valve by the way?
However the real problem is the drive - no drive at all in fact which suggests that it is more than jus the prop shaft.  I asked the guys in Malvern (not to be recommended) when there some very worrying noises going - they said drive it over to them and they would have a look.  She never got there!  So we had her trailered over and they then said that there was nothing they could assess without taking the prop shaft, transfer box and gear box out - and they were not prepared to even guess at the cost.  So back she came on a trailer and she has been sitting outside ever since (now the hand break pads are well locked into the drums so I cannot even drag her to a more useful position- one thing after another!). She is a higher spec than my 300GDL but exactly the same age and the interior matches so the question then became do up a 112000 mile diesel with plastic seats or fix AND do up a 193000 mile petrol with unknown drive problems in addition to leaks, dead a/c, bent bits etc etc - "no brainer" as they say.  Your old beast would cost somewhere in the region of £5000 to fix properly I reckon and is it worth it?  Goes back to market trends ... let alone who to trust to do the job properly!

Re: Market trends

Do you want a 300GE SWB to add to the mix? More engine and mechanical choices...
