Key jammed in door lock
I have managed to get the key stuck in the drivers door of my 1988 460 [230GE]. The key won't move and will not pull out. Presumably the25 year old lock is very worn. Mercedes will only supply a complete set of locks and handles for all 3 doors and petrol filler cap at cost of £350. Any cheaper suggsetions welcome
Many thanks
Paul
I found it was cheaper to fit these....

than it was to get new MB key blanks....

I have a similar problem & ordered the drivers door lock handle on its own yesterday. You will have to be sure you are still on the original lock set or that the Mercedes records are upto date. Part number is A3817600659 plus lock set number. If you are not worried about a different key then you can have a key and handle A6707600159 at £46.60 there is good uk stock
If you strip the old barrels out of both locks you can swap all the llittle brass slides around to match your old key, fiddly but possible
Key barrels are VAG ones really.. strip the barrel down and go down to the VW dealer .. they have a little kit with sliders, springs etc. which they use to match key to barrel. My local VW dealer did it for free at the spares desk but that was a nice workshop foreman who like to keep his eye in but hated paperwork! Did do a post here or on 3PS about it with photos and all.
Bought a cheapy door handle/lock from ebay.. horrible.. not the same quality and I think about all I used was the outer casing for the tumblers.. the rest is gash!
Hi All
nine times out of ten if you remove the door card<<< undo the bolts holding the handle to the door and soak the lock end in a release oil overnight all will work again<<< if the key is broken in the lock you can release the lock barrel and remove the broken bit ..put all back working ..lube the other locks with WD40 and slide the key in and out a few times the smear the key with petroleum jelly or silicone grease >>>good for another10 years
The ones i listed above are Febi Bilstein and are decent quality......and only £20

I can only come up with 2 types of 460 type G lock set
Complete sets with 3 Door Handles, Ignition Barrel and Fuel Cap and 2 keys.
Early type upto serial number 055661 with Vented Fuel Cap part number A460 890 10 67 £215+VAT
Late type from serial number 055662 non Vented Fuel Cap part number A460 890 18 67 £265+VAT
Could do either less 5% as no margin in locks and keys unfortunatly.
I am assuming from the 1988 year that yours will be the Late type? but could be wrong, still only £318 all in or £302.10 with discount!!
New door handle with random key A670 760 01 59 £46.60+VAT can do one for £44.74 all in.
The original handles, although the barrels come out, the barrels are not available as spare parts, if it has had a replacment handle already you could change just the barrel with random key A670 760 02 05 £19.40+VAT can do one for £18.62 all in.
You could also order either a handle or a barrel to match your factory key number, Handle A670 760 02 59 £68.50+VAT can do one for £65.76 all in, or Barrel A670 760 01 05 £47.30+VAT can do one for £45.41 all in.
The other options are that the Vans use the same lock system, just missing the Fuel Cap.
Van Lock set with 4 Handles and Ignition Barrel A601 893 24 03 £160+VAT can do one for £153.60 all in, or if the barrels are the later type then 5 barrels and Ignition Barrel A601 890 07 67 £92+VAT can do one for £88.32 all in.
You could also look for a T1 type van in a breakers with matching locks and key? Mayne a long shot....
Hope this helps

PS If you can supply the chassis number i can be more acurate?
Try a dry graphite lubricant - a bit messy by great results.
Hi
Can he not be given the key number from Mercedes with a copy of the tax book and
then get one cut at a decent key locksmith
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Having used a lot of WD40 and leaving it a few days I managed to grip it with a mole wrench and after some wiggling the key came out. Lock seems to be working OK at the moment
