According key to the EPC, blank keys and key heads are listed; there are two makes of key one is 'Huf' and the second is 'ivos'.
Checking with my local dealer; he says the blanks are not supplied (security reasons) but a cut key can be supplied by them after your provide the V5 document and some identity verifying you are the owner of the vehicle.
This would work if the key, ignition barrel and door locks you have are original and not been replaced during the service life of the vehicle.
DELETED BY PISTONHEAD DUE TO REPEATION
My local key people,Gemsec in Bristol cut me these for c. £10
MB supplied keys have the plastic head made out of hard brittle plastic. I ordered one to find out which was the master (doors and ignition are different on my car.. after I redid doors to suit the one door key which VW will do for you).. Anyway the new MB lasted about 1/2 day before I sat on it and it broke.. so I would not get them unless you want to find out which is the master.. TBH a full set of locks/handles/fuel cap and barrel are about £400 for a 3 door which is not a bad deal.. if expensive in a "banger".
Is there a difference between the 2 suppliers? My ignition key has about twice as many notches on it compared to the door key.. not sure if that is because the door mechanism is simpler so can only take half the notches (each notch lifts/lowers a plate of steel and there is a large gap in the door mechanisms). So sort of suspect the door barrel is better and maybe they only use half the notches to keep it robust for the doors but have not fully worked that out.. need the full VW "plates of steel" kit to find that out and embarressed to worry the dealer as the workshop foreman (only one who knew old school Golf locks) did it for free..
Or you could buy them from about £1.20 from www.keytrader.co.uk - code is HUP22 key blank :
http://www.keytrader.co.uk/Vehicle-Keys/Car-Keys/HUF/HU22P-Key-Blank.html
and they are solid moulded tops not like the rubbish MB 2-part type
And as for security... My '86 300GD key will open my '82 300TD
Prices are wrong .. a few years ago they were;
A 381 760 06 59 = door handle less key = 72 euro - matched to chassis?
A 460 890 18 67 = full set of handles,keys, fuel cap = 212 Euro
A 460 890 10 67 SCHLIESSGARN. 235,23 € 272,87 € full set of locks/handle/filler cap/steering/keys
A 670 760 01 59 TÜRGRIFF 36,39 € 42,21 € handle with matching key = £20 on ebay (dodgy copy that is not too nice)
A 461 760 06 06 KEY (SCHLUESSEL) Weight (kg): 0.02 Official Price: 42.77 Euro
.. and Euro price = Vat'ed GBP approximately...
Get one cut by someone is the answer.
Whats the deal if I want to get a spare key and remote fob form my w463?
Who from and the best price?

If you check on the MBClub board you'll find a guy who folks recommend. Still not cheap, around £150 iirc but could be wrong.
