You guest it, I did it again! I am starting to doubt my driving skills. This time I have a bit of damage though. I urgently need a front light and left hand side mirror (463). Then not to urgent are gutter beads, all 3 left hand side indicators, front bumper, front bumper, rear bumper....

We slid on the ice on a bend, and there was just nothing to be done, but hold on. Nothing else could get to my house in this weather though, and I have been taking all the neighbours to town and back.

I have been quite for a bit, but I am busy building our house. The roof is on, heating running, etc.

Re: Keep on rolling.....

I think I will submit a claim this time, they will probably scrap it. Time for a new one. Not feeling bad, considered it any way. So let's see what Sainsburys say it is worth.

I don't know how familiar you are with dealing with insurance companies, but don't settle for their first offer/valuation, you can argue quite a bit and get yourself a better deal.
Also another option might be if you can repair it yourself, getting them to pay you for the repairs (minus excess), seeing as you can probably get stuff cheaper than the MB garage or their approved repairer, who will likely be unfamiliar with the G.
Safe driving!
What tyres were you on?

I am on 285/75 16 M/T's. The tyres are fine, I just when around a bend, slid, and then hit an invisible ditch which was filled with snow. We were driving at about 25ml/h. I am trying to put a picture on, but it is a bit to big. How do I make it smaller? My PC skills is about as good as my driving skills.

But you got there in the end!
It's great that the panels and glass look straight and undamaged, and the car did its job, protecting the occupants.
I reckon you can get a mirror off ebay for £150, that headlight surround is A4638840731 IF I remember right, was £64 back in 2006, now goes for £98! Comes in primer. Best double-check with your VIN.

We were driving on our farm, so no seatbelts! What amazed me most was the fact that you can twist the wheel, lock the diffs, and drive it back onto it's wheels.

Nothing like a G! Good to know your engine didn't suffer from any fluid loss, always a worry after toppling over.

Re: Keep on rolling.....

My reg is H29CEW, the previous owner is around. The car is a rightoff I was told today. All the panels on the left hand side is dented, both bumpers, wheel arches are broken, side steps, exhaust, mirror has disintegrated and then the smaller things like lights, gutters and trims.

Now the arguments start about how much the will pay out. My feeling is that I would like to see about £5k.

Re: Keep on rolling.....

Please don't settle for anything below what you think is a fair settlement. How much is a similar G to yours before the crash? Take away your excess from that amount and that should be your settlement.

THEN let them know that you want to buy the "wreck" back from them, for minimal outlay, then you have a spare "G" around for parts and bits...

Re: Keep on rolling.....

Christo,

I hope you are all well. Always scary when one is in a 'fender bender'

I would have to agree with the comments made on the thread on insurance. One does have to battle with the silly sod's sometimes and would suggest that you may want to call up  the usual suspects and ask then what a price would be for a similar type of car - I am sure you will find it more that you initially think its worth. Best of luck with that one.

For parts you may want to try James' at G Wagen  in Caversham, who knows could do with a trip up to Wales....;) if you need the parts delivered......

Well all we have ATM is fog and more fog - snow all gone........

Re: Keep on rolling.....

My first G was the same white and reg was H704CEC ..... Wont take long to find out looking on vehicule for sales on differents supports that your G was worth more than 5K.

Maybe a  valuation from caversham should help ???

Re: Keep on rolling.....

Hi. First and foremost, glad to hear that nobody got hurt. Definitely agree with haggling on the price with the insurance company: a garage rolled my rediculously tricked-out defender about 3 years ago and tried to pay out to me as if it were a standard car. After I handed over to them a fully documented build sheet, a 3 1/2" thick folder of bills - yes, I was rather pedantic about keeping bills on this car - and 1 1/2 years of haggling later, we managed to settle at a decent number.............I got almost what I thought I could get (without going to court which would take even longer!). It wasn't all bad - I now have a G instead!

The reason for my post is however, if you can wait until probably mid/end feb, I will have a spare 2 front bumpers (one with a winch mount, the other standard) and one rear one. I know these can be difficult to source sometimes, even in Germany. I will be offering to the people on the forum first.

Good luck/ph

Re: Keep on rolling.....

Hi Phileas

I would be happy to take the front bumper with the winch mount off your hands. If you could keep me in mind when you are ready to sell it.

I would  also then have a standard 463 front bumper available if you or anyone else was looking for one.
