Insurance quotes

I know that this will probably sound a dopey question to most of you, but I called my insurance company today to get a quote. Told them I have a 300GDS and was told that all they have on the system is a Mercedes 300 GDS injection. I have no idea whether mine  is an 'i' or not. I don't want to insure it wrongly, knowing how good insurance companies are at wriggling out of things.
The quote was really good (have insured my other vehicle with them for years), providing it is actually insuring the G and not a fictitious vehicle
Can anyone enlighten me?

Re: Insurance quotes

It's diesel so it's injection, that's how diesels work !

Re: Insurance quotes

It is pretty academic that Diesels' are all injected. I am sure, at some point the Insurance company has asked of you, if your engine is Petrol or Diesel.

I think the question here, implies injection in terms of establishing injection vs. carburetor because they can levy more on Insurance for injection. By the same token, the company is showing its ignorance between Diesel and Petrol engines.

Basically, it is a dumb question.

Re: Insurance quotes

My insurance is just up for renewal, anyone found any G wagen specialists in the last 12 months worth a phone call?

My lowest is  £500 for a 43 year old with no claims or points (but no bonus either as not main car) annual mileage of 1500!!!

Seems bloody steep compared to other cars!

Re: Insurance quotes

Probably becasue when they are broken it take a while to fix and the parts cost a small fortune! :(

If your non city based and do limited mileage you may like to try the NFU?

Re: Insurance quotes

Always found my 230GE really cheap to insure - with AA then DirectLine then Kwikfit and back to AA.

From 4 yrs old to now (24 years old) its always been about £200-£400 with full NCD.

Currently, with a couple of no fault accidents on the record, its gone to about £400p.a fully comp with about £150 XS.

Basically, there are so few Gs on the road that the insurance companies go by mileage and your record rather than the car (plus car value).  They don't care that parts cost a fortune - they just have to insure up to the market value or close to it.  Beyond that, they will take every opportunity to cut their losses and write it off.  You are normally left with a choice of taking a poor payout and keeping the car, duly marked as a Cat D writeoff, and fixing yourself.  Then remember that selling a car with a Cat D label is always problematic (so I read), even if the write off damage was cosmetic, so allow for 20% off the market value.

Insurance sucks more than fuel tax.

I pay £ 480 for a 2011 350G:  multi-car policy with Admiral, full no claims bonus, tracker, 3000 miles a year, non-London postcode, garaged.

Re: Insurance quotes

I think if you can fit the car into your garage it should make a big difference.

Re: Insurance quotes

I insure my 1999 G500 for only £328 fully comp doing 15,000 miles per year. I have full no claims and clean licence. It is with Mercedes-Benz Insurance (underwritten by Aviva).

Just moved from Egg to Aviva. London post code.
Aviva £740, fully comp 10,000 mile a year, £350 excess.
Egg were £1350, same miles £600 excess
Adrian flux have never managed a quote under £2400 in the last 5 years. lol
Even funnier, the highest quote for the Sprinter was £7500.
Aviva did it for £1650.

Re: Insurance quotes

Glad you said that. I knew diesels have injectors (because I once had problems in the past with them on another vehicle) but was wondering whether there was something I  was missing!! Actually they didn't ask, interestingly. Maybe they realised when I said GDS.
Thanks for that though

Re: Insurance quotes

Not that its important but has Mercedes-Benz not moved from Aviva to Allianz recently!

One thing with insurance you should check the T/C's as allot of insurers are now making the excess double if you want to use a bodyshop outside of their approved network. The thing about their network is it will not be a Mercedes-Benz approved paint and body centre they are pushing you towards!!
