thinking of giving the old 460 and facelift with 463 grill and headlamp surrounds - is this a simple bolt off/on job or will it involve much fettling?

james

Re: how much fettling...?

I do not know of the width of the grille, if this will just slot in place of the old W460 one.

But I do think the head light surrounds will fit, but there is a panel on the side that fills up the bottom headlight cut-offs.  A slot has to be cut into the side of the wing for the tongue of these new panels to interlock into and complete the full shape of the headlight.  How this paneling interferes with the bumper, I do not know.

So, on the whole, not quite a bolt on but the modifications is achievable.  The panels will need spraying.

Hello James,

Your answer has been, right under "our noses", look at at the Home page, the very first picture posted by Steve Kirk, titled "Refreshing my shed...".  He has just done, what you are asking of. The W463 grille will fit a W460.

If you look at picture 9/12, there is the head light surround fitted to the vehicle. Notice the bottom-outside of the head light surround, the body panel folds inwards for which you need a filler panel shown in pictures further up, as picture 12/12 shows.

If you PM Steve Kirk, he can answer your questions in more detail.

Cheers,

Re: how much fettling...?

Its a fairly easy process to update the front end of a 460 to 463 style , the only real snag is finding the parts at a reasonable cost. be aware that a 460 front bumper will touch the lower headlight panels so will need altering unless you shell out big bucks for a 463 bumper. I am fabficating a new bumper to overcome this problem as i have a friend with a handy press brake folder. Most of the panels i fitted came from E-Bay Germany at reasonable cost.
