How to change Fuel Filters
Hello everyone,
I don't think my fuel filters will have been cleaned for a long time so now the time i think. But i don't know how.
Can anyone tell me how to get to them? I suspect they are near the fuel pump but not sure on that!
Regards,
Ian
Hi
What model is it and year or better still the chassis number

You were having problems starting your vehicle a few weeks ago, has that been resolved? If so, how?
We are still waiting on vehicle details from that occasion too, please give details and we can give you a meaningful answer.
Rakesh , what is the best way to change the main fuel filter on a Diesel 603 engine, so it doesn't spill diesel over the serpertine belt?
I recall doing this on my old diesel without too many problems. You have to keep it level and withdraw it forwards pushing it into the radiator hose and then raising it out. Put some rags under the route to collect drips. there was a cable or hose cliped nearby that I used to move away first.
Partially fill the new one with diesel and assemble in reverse.
Slacken the 19mm nut on the top-centre of the main diesel filter. Then remove the two bolts securing the filter mounting bracket.
Keeping the filter up right, remove the 19mm centre bolt and carefully withdraw the fuel filter and drop this into a tin or adequate collector vessel.
Remove the o-ring from the filter top with the aid of small flat blade screw driver and renew. Renew the o- rings on the 19mm nut. Smear a little diesel or light oil on the bolt seals and replace a new cartridge. Remount the filter bracket and finally tighten the 19mm bolt taking care not to over tighten.
Remember to replace the elbow filter to be found under the air filter, by the near side inner chassis frame.
Finally bleed the system using your primer pump by the injector pump.
I rember changing it and getting it full of air, but one bolt seems to act as a bleed valve when you slacken it? Which one? It then started no problem as no hand primer on a 603.
Hi Ian
I think everyone was convinced it was a diesel!!
So 300GE SWB Petrol
You are correct it is under the rear of the vehicle, near the fuel fump and just to the right hand front of the fuel tank.
The fuel filter sits in the middle of a triple bracket / clamp with the fuel pump on the front end and the fuel accumalator at the rear.
I have attached an EPC picture showing the set up.
The change is straight forward, after you have releaved the pressure in the system (various ways, remove fuel pump relay or fuse and run until it dies - them disconnect the battery) clamp the rubber feed hose from the tank to the pump, loosen the feed pipe on the left side and the banjo bolt on the right, undo the small screws that hold the clamp halves together and drop the clamp down, undo the feed pipe and banjo and remove the filter (have a suitable drain container underneath whilst doing all this) refit the pipes with new 12mm sealing washer on the banjo bolt and build up in reverse order. Unclamp the feed hose, refit the relay or fuse and then fire up and check for leaks etc.
Hopefully job done, but i am open to different opinions or explanations!!!
Can sometimes be a pain depending on the last time it was changed and the general state of the underside of the vehicle, the filter can corrode through under the clamp if its been on a while, the pipes can be a little brittle or perished sometimes, the clamp bolts can be a real pain if the original phillips head bolts are still in situ and any of the 4 clamp rubber mounts can snap, all these are rare but just beware, it is better to have a look under a few days before to see the condition and spray fittings with WD40 etc and check the pipe condition etc.
Hope this helps

Hi can someone tell me where to find fuel ( petrol) filter on 460 280
GE.. I don't think it's been changed.. Car had a recon fuel tank about a year ago.. A picture of it would be helpful ... And a simple method of chsnging it.. Also what does the fuel accumulator do? Many thanks John
Cant help with the location of fuel filter as i only have oil burners. The fuel accumulator does just that but also serves as a type of damper to stop any fuel knocking , if you see what i mean. Like on central heating its a space where fuel can have space to build up pressure gently and not instant like it does in a small bore pipe. Still looks a poor example. Think of a bag on a set of bagpipes keeps flow smooth and constant
Sorted im sure you get it now
ive looked but i cant see any bagpipes......
ive looked but i cant see any bagpipes......
Factory fitted part on Scottish models only, yours will be fitted with a Lute.
mine has a leak.... is it a welsh model??

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the delay!
