Headlights and Aircon Questions

Hi all,

Just acquired a 300 GES SWB Petrol auto today and have a couple of questions/problems:

 1. When switch is  at Dipped position My Headlights seem to be on Full Beam
When I push the stalk forward for Full Beam the lights - I get indication of Full Beam on Dash but lights go dim/dip and seem to be in "sidelight mode with very little light on road!    Any Advice?

2.  How do I switch on the heater without switching on Air Con?

Any Tips/pointers on ownership will be gratefully received.

 I am sure fixwin38 would have given you sound advice; not knowing what he may have suggested, indicator stalk can be problematic.

You might want to dismantle it to clean contacts and try, failing this replace the stalk.  Before doing this, check the relay that it not stuck.

The air conditioner can be switched off  by pushing in the radial button marked with the air con. icon.  It has a small pilot light in its centre.

Ok thanks for replies,  now know how heater without Aircon works. 

Headlights are HID and work in dipped position but go OFF in Full Beam position leaving only sidelights. Need to check again when dark but dipped position looks like Full Beam though not certain as unfamiliar with G.
Popped Headlights out but can't test with ordinary bulb as HID bulb connector is different. I know nothing about HIDs so if someone could point me in right direction

Interior/Map Light is definitely upside-down, as Map Light shines in my eye and Red Lights on seat Belt warning signs are up top and not really visible, as they are facing towards Windscreen.  The switch is on left and little Icons the wrong way up.
So is there an easy way to take this out, or just lever away until it 

Also ABS seems skittery and does not  to come back on after Using Low ratio and Diffs.
Had a couple of slightly unnerving skids due to this.
Eventually it works again?
