GWOA's 20th anniversary
Just to paint a disgusting and a hypothetical picture, "scratched me head, scratched me *-----self censored-------* fingers (Urghhh)", said it was disgusting, but this paints a picture of one having nothing better to do. This got me thinking ahead; in three years time the GWOA will be marking its 20th anniversary.
What, could we possibly do to celebrate this milestone? Three years may seem far, but if it is going to be planing for something spectacular, it is just enough time. There is no denying, to make something of memorable occasion, it will take members, some dosh to contribute to the event.
Food for thought:
Two day event? - B&B and Camping, FOOD is my thing - lots of it, Drinks.... bring them along or bulk club purchase (drivers' to exercise restraint), Kids entertainment - bouncy castle, coconut shoots, water games, 9 pin balling etc, etc, Womens entertainment involving G-Wagen drives and circuit competitions, First aiders and Marshalls to cover the event, AA/RAC route marking, Invitations to other G-Clubs, Sponsoring from Mercedes Benz- UK, Clearing up and refuse organisation, water and power supply, sanitary utilieties, Reception and Parking, Venue etc, etc...
Any one contributing with suggestions and ideas please be bold enough to come forward. I will in due course, approach the events orgarniser on this topic, but for now, I have stepped over his toeses, sorry Events organiser. I will make appologises in time and make a formal approach on this topic with you.
Regards,
Definitely a 2 dayer sounds good. Get as many G's to stay, visit, pass-by etc and offer some token 20yr memento as part of a modest entry cost (GWOA mug, cap, t-shirt....?). I might even sort my G out in that time (its SORN at the moment)
AGOA is a mere child in comparison with GWOA but I would echo the sentiments of planning well ahead.
We are having a celebration (The AGOA Treffen 2012) over two days in November to mark 30 Years of the G-Wagen in Australia. It was released to the press in November 1982 in Northern Victoria and included a climb of Mt Terrible which we will emulate on the Saturday. The town of Mansfield Victoria is playing host and our vehicles will gather in the Botanic park for a public display - MB are bringing a few new vehicles (including a demonstrator) and the odd 'special' G plus the ADF are bringing a couple of the new Military G's as well.
We are having a dinner on the Saturday night; another public line-up in the Botanic Park on Sunday and another high-country tour in the afternoon. Plenty of time to talk G and socialise and some modest 4 wheel touring in some lovely countryside.
Ity is amazing the supporters that have come on Board for the Treffen and I think that if you start now for your Anniversary in 3 years time you cannot fail to have a terrific event.
Best of Luck with it.
John
well done early planing the key to a good 20th anniversary
for me 2 days would be short a bank holiday would be better
take care not to do on the same time as other G main events

not much time if you have to drive from spain ect
jdring the goody bag is a must inc maps + a plaque for participants
this could be done in a diffrent colour for the awards
not a big expence (long distance / best 460 / 461 / 463
best modifiy ect ect handed out at the main diner / BBQ
a off road track that all can do not just the experts
Hey Rakesh.. Don't forget Security) I do some part-time work working for a security firm in Sheffield you will need somebody to
look after all those expensive G's i guess? Traffic control etc , it all can be arranged....we have worked at many events over the last 5 years,
I like your ideas think it would make a great bank holiday bash!!!!
Glenn,
Is it a good idea to get female partner involved !!!!!!! Never mind getting all members to agree first !!!
Hi Rakesh
Good for you for starting to make noises about it now
We went to an International Saab Owners club do in Belgium a few months ago and they did exactly what Adrian Cox is suggesting. So I am with him on that one. Maybe a bit of an autojumble for Gs too?
Fred, you cheeky sod! FEMALE members might have quite a lot to say too. We are not all just the little wifeys of the manly GWOA members!! Maybe those who don't like the Gs could have a play area where they could play with little fluffy kittens or something? Seriously, I think that those of us who have joined the club as members in our own right, are there for the vehicles and therefore would be more than happy with the sort of thing Adrian is suggesting. There could also be a prize for the Best modified G to be covered in pink fur fabric and glitter? Or maybe not......
Rakesh, I can list for you what was done at the Saab one for ideas if you like, but Adrian has come up with quite a bit.
Do keep us posted as to how it goes
Hi Minxy,
will have to have a word with your husband and give him some pointers........ LOL
On a more serious note congrats to you both and wish all the best, and for once I will agree with SOME of what you have said. :)

Caroline,
Was refering to members partners!!!!, of course members have a say whether male or female.... Partners should of course be welcome , they could do the dishes and clean the cars !!!
Fred
I suspect if I told mine to clean the G he would tell me in no uncertain terms what I could do with my suggestion!!! I have however cleaned his L200 for him a couple of times in all the years that he has had it as it would not have got cleaned if I hadn't!!!
Partners could officially make the tea, couldn't they?
Thank you Gentlemen,
Your points have been noted. I would like to hear from our female members and from members partners' with their views and expectations from such a meet.
Please, advise on what should be laid on for the kiddies, what they like to gorge on, what should they healthy eat and their entertaiment likes and dislikes.
Not forgetting the men, Gentlemen, what are your expectations?
Please feel free to offer suggestions.
Kind Regards,
