Gwagen without spare tire
Hi everybody,
i just wanted to know the general opinions of Gwagens enthusiasts about removing the spare tire assembly at the back of the truck. I know i won't be the first one to do so, but i will never use that spare tire since i'm only driving in the city. I bought that truck because i love the style of it and also to use in the snow.
I would appreciate some pictures of Gwagens without the spare tire to see the final result .
Thank you !
Hi 4012,
Which country are you in (what City will you e driving around?)
I think in the UK you have to have a spare by law, and putting it inside will reduce your boot space. Have seen a few with out the rigg at the back, personally I think it sort of makes the G look a little like a Landrover, but that is me!
BTW if you are in London, have you looked at the congestion charge reduction if you have a LWB?

just take a couple of those puncture repair cans with you; there is no legal requirement and big 4x4 tyres are difficult to puncture in normal road use
What PRWALES said! :)
Canada..............hmmm thats that place just above the US is it not? :)
Do post up some pics of your G - you know before and after shots

In my minds' eye, for me, the G-Wagen is with the spare wheel and carrier mounted; I am a conformist.
I have attached a picture I found of a G-wagen without its spare or carrier on it, probably breaking some copy rights here, but to its owner, I mean no harm and not profiting from this. Note, the double tail gate doors as per European spec. Here, in England we get the single tailgate door, which I feel looks better.
Should you want to try removing the wheel and carrier, it is not a difficult job to do. Remove the wheel and you only have three bolts to undo the carrier. If you do not like the look of it, remount the carrier but apply some thread lock to the bolts of the carrier.
Note, the top nut and position of the carrier, changing its position can change the height of the wheel. This is a facility to mount the wheel in relation to using the the tow bar.

Hi Spider1V ,
i live in Canada and snow can be very abundant at time ; also, because of the temperature variation ( from -40 to 35 degrees Celcius ) the roads are not very pleasant to drive on ; let's say i would think twice before buying a Porsche 911 even if i had the money !
These are the reasons why i bought a Gwagen, i think it's the perfect vehicle.
