anyone know anything about it? Any forum owners, general history etc. On my way to see it now but thought if anyone has had dealings with the guy or the car it would be helpful. Mentioned previous winning bidder was from abroad and hasnt fully paid, needs starter motor but all else is apparently in good order.

Very early model 81?  It looks very rusty round the back wings. Looks like its been brush painted over the offending areas, Make sure the rust isn't in expensive places, windscreen, bulkhead sills roof seams.   All the places your black Swb had gone.
Good luck

Ye just went to view it lot of filler and brush painting, engine wouldnt rev up, foot down and revs would go lower, been parked up a while and owner seemed to think lack of fuel was cause of this issue but it didnt really add up, any ideas what it could be....

fuel filter, rusty fuel tank, contaminated fuel lines and metering head, any or all of these, walk away unless you plan a transplant or the body work is very good

Re: green 280 lwb on ebay

I've seen more G's of this age and state in the last 2-3 months that I did in the whole 12 months I was looking for mine I think.

As I was saying to ms minx earlier today,  I wonder how may of these will end up back on ebay once the current fad is over as people realise how expensive they are to repair and run.

Especially since once they are in a pooor state any bodging gives way very quickly and if the rear 1/4 bodywork and engine are that rough you can only think that any number of really expensive items will also need doing (propshafts, front axels, screen frame, shock perches etc etc).

Quite, I bought mine for £1400 off Ebay unseen. It's a nice wagon now but it took 20 months. And another. Nine grand.

i have seen gordon's g wagen lwb and he has done a fine job ,it looks superb in it's mafia black. it cost plenty to do and  there is still a diesel turbo 606a engine to do yet - it will be a really nice package when finished - doing this kind of work is never cheap even doing most of the work yourself .   20 months and 9 k -  fair play to gordon.

Re: green 280 lwb on ebay

He offered me the green one for £2k but it needed a lot of work. There's defo a lot of g wagon's about at the moment, still no decent lwb though, they seem to end prematurely on ebay, shows how sought after they are.

Love the matt black swb one that's about but it's £13K! Given me motivation to get a cheap swb again, matt black it and big black wheels!

Re: green 280 lwb on ebay

 I have a lwb 83 280GE

I was considering getting it wrapped but my pal is a mechanic and has a spray shop and MOT station down in Brighton as very few cars get custom pain down in Brighton he offered to give it a bare metal re spray in either Vinyly or Matt.

I had mine sprayed 5 years ago by some clown who was a friend of a friend......Twat just over sprayed it which is ok but he did a crap job and now needs doing again. Fortunately I made his wedding rings so it worked out it didn't really cost a lot. Difference is his rings will last a lifetime though.

G wagons look so cool in Matt finish but concerned about long term and getting bored.

has any one else had there sprayed or wrapped

Cheers guys
