A labour of love has been performed.  The zebrano was looking very tired and I couldnt justify the crazy prices merc wanted even with trade discount.  so hello new 9744 Brilliant silver trim!

I like it, works well in silver and I suspect black too. There was one done in blue to co-ordinate with its body on the forum a few years back but in my view it did not work.

Re: Goodbye old wood, Hello new not wood!!!!!!!!!

I did it myself actually,  The biggest pain was taking it all apart.  but I wanted to do that as I replaced alot of switches as the lamps were out on them also I am retrofitting Air Conditioning. So the dash was removed.

I took all of the trim off. scotchpad all over to give a good key then some cellulose thinners.  Then it was primed and off to the bodyshop for some base coat and several coats of laquer.  Total cost £80 ..

its the same colout as the car, brilliant silver, but i think piano black would also look good.

If anyone wants a hand with doing it or advice PM me.

Fitting a/c is a big job. If you documented that along the way with some photos it would be useful for others. Send the info to the magazine editir and it will be published. Same with your trim replacement. Did you paint it or fix aluminium sheet to it?

Looks good! There is a layer of metal at the base of the wood veneer, so it might be that he just removed the wood layers and polished the metal underneath - neat solution, and factory cut-outs.

I tried that but but the metal just looks like polished tin plate, not very pretty.

As Garwell said in his post he had the dash sprayed in silver to match his car, a much more professional finish than the polished bare metal.

Re: Goodbye old wood, Hello new not wood!!!!!!!!!

I find that the smaller steering wheel makes the G feel more manouverable and less like steering a truck. Obviously if my power steering packed up it would be a different story !!

The drawback with the smaller diameter wheel is that I can't see the top of the speedo. This is not really a problem because my howitzer of an exhaust makes it pretty obvious when I am in that zone of the speedo.
