General gearbox and engine conv info needed
Hi guys and gals new to g ownership I'm a Merc tech and loved g's for years but never found one that was cheap enough but alas I'm now the proud owner of a 230ge swb manual I've done some background research on conversion etc and I think I'm going for 662 or 606 with a 6speed manual but as I know some members have already carried out this conv I have a couple of q's the gearbox I guess is a sprinter one but does anyone know models and years and the 662 606 engines how do peeps get around the electricals on the pump ? Funny really my dads got an old e300td (606a) but I've heard the horror stories re fitting as my g's rhd plus his diesel pumps knackered. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Come to Somerset for Axels w/end....there will be a number of 460's with 662 and 606 conversions availble to drive ,poss a 605 as well ,
I will aslo hold a 'seminar' with engines and chassis on view [602,662,603,605,606] showing engine mounts ,sump mods , dipstick change ,flywheels,clutches and gearboxes.
I will explain the inj. pump issues with examples on the bench.
ALL the info is already posted here if you trawl for it.
Dont be false footed by the 602 sprinter [310,312] this is A levels ,direct injection ,electric governed rotary pump and the gearbox although strong has a top shifter ,you need car type 5 or 6spd with the 3 side levers.
Your Dads 606a goes into a 460/461 without too much sweat....you need a pump change anyway.[to 603 M pump]...RHD not an issue really.
You may be interested in my conversion which has transformed a tedious slow and thirsty LWB 1988 230GE into a 209gtd. Did not even need to change the auto and it still is used to tow large loads in my hilly city. Very econmical . I have no regrets .It is a 2.9 Turbo OM602 from a Sprinter. Donor vehicle was a manual . Been some years now and it is a keeper. Added pic with A/C

Thanks Tony for all the good info sounds like this weekend is just what I need can you tell me who I need to contact and how so I can find out dates addresses etc
