Gents,

I have a a oil leak, and when I say a leak it pretty much emptying itself of oil in a very quick time! I have been doing allot of topping up to keep myself going! When it get low it doesnt automatically change up gear, you need to lay off the gas then accelerate again for it to change! anyway thats besides the point!

The oil seams to be coming from the OSR of the gearbox, I took a picture of the area its coming from, some round bit that sticks out the side of the box, any idea what this is, and how involved this will get fixing this out!!

Re: Gearbox Oil Leak

It looks to be the secondary oil pump for the auto box

It should be held on with 3 allen headed bolts

It has various seals and o rings in and around it

Send me your chassis and i will send you a picture to browse

WDC1631542X706113 Thanks for your help Gav, if this is an oil pump it might explain why I'm loosing oil so quickly!

Re: Gearbox Oil Leak

That threw me completly!!!!

I was expecting a G not an ML!!!

I can find something that looks good on a G auto box but nothing on the ML chassis number above?

Can you confirm its the correct chassis number and possibly post a couple more pics.

A close up and a more panoramic one would be good.

I also thought that the ML prop from Transfer Box to the Front Axle ran up the N/S of the vehicle? Not the O/S if this is a picture of the O/S/R of the Gearbox?

Confused.Gav

Cheers

Gav

Found it, I also found out that this is a cover for the centrifugal governor, does anyone have any ideas what the hell a centrifugal govener is?

It looks like there is a circlip on the end of it and a seal under there and this is where the oil is coming from!

I wondered if I took this circlip out if this would be safe or will the insides of the gearbox spill out onto me!!

Re: Gearbox Oil Leak

Hi

From your description I would assume you will need “O RING” item 71; the circlip should go back again. The “SEAL RING” item 68 looks from the part number to be a Teflon type seal but I could be mistaken. Perhaps if it’s the actual pump to box that is leaking then item 80 is the “O RING” and item 65 is again a Teflon type “SEAL RING”.

Your Gear Box has this set up I have highlighted above, with the Cover Item 104 on the N/S of the vehicle and the Oil Pump Item 62 on the O/S of the vehicle to your Chassis Number and Gear Box number 722.397.23.489983. This is presuming it has the original factory gear box still fitted. There is a later option of Cover Item 89 on the O/S to replace the Oil Pump.

I am no Gear Box expert for sure but by looking at the picture, under the circlip and I assume some sort of blanking end plate you will see the Nut item 86 on the end of the Shaft item 83 protruding through the pump. I don’t think anything will jump out at you but that’s only my opinion, if it was me it would be coming off!!!! Maybe Fixwin will confirm?

Hope this helps

Re: Gearbox Oil Leak

Gav you are spot on, it is the original box and for sure the older set up that does not have a blanking plate!

It looks like its coming out of this rather than the 104 seal as the oil is coming from higher up!

So number 62 is the secondry oil pump you were mentioning earlier in the thread! maybe this is why its emptying so quickly!

There is a blanking plug under the circlip which is not shown on the epc page, but that will be fine so I dont have to worry about that. I think the only thing todo is to whip it out and see what happens, hopefully nothing to expensive as this will allow me to use my spare cash to buy the wiper spindle i very badly need!

Re: Gearbox Oil Leak

The plug is out and the new o-ring arrived, it is much thinner than expected, its about .5mm thick, worrying!! and there is no sign of the seal behind that! mines musnt have that one! a spring and a washer fell out, hopefully they will pop right back where they came from!!

Sleepless night until its finished in the morning!!
