GD350 turbo diesel on e-bay. Fitted with the bored out turbo-ed 603 engine, car looks in good order but this engine is a big risk.

Re: gd350

Very fair price for an original 350....engine problem is real but managable due to cavitation at high tempature/bad cooling/bad maintainance with this overbored engine leaving the water passages to do too much heat transfer from thin bores. Many failures esp in USA [main market] Many warranty rebuilds with modified parts [h gasket pistons conrods]
My view is that this is the sweetest of all them , a classic good looking straight six ,unstressed ,in Africa the 603 na is called the engine that never die .
Would be proud to have this in the toy box with such an interesting history. How much more wd one of the UK dealers ask ??

Re: gd350

i feel its over priced by 3k.

BUT its got the burr walnut trim, ac , straight body. its the ideal G to plant a 606a in !!!!!

most important parts already there to carry over like sump, oil pump, ip etc... the 606a would turn this into lovely everday user like mark and maxwell smarts old  G300 TD's. i always liked those 2. the G's that is !!

Re: gd350

You would have thought at 18 years old and 118k miles the "danger" in the engine is long past?

Were these things not going pear shaped 15 / 17 years and 50k / 60k miles ago?

Not obviously had too much 1st experience in the UK!!! other than in 140 S Class's

So as always will bow down to a higher knowledge....

Looks like a mighty fine motor to me :)

Well I'm sure someone from here will ask him the question, has the head gasket been done !

Re: gd350

hi,

pp's question is the moist important: these engines had gasket failures and if they were done under mb warranty schemes, they fitted a modified gasket and also improved cooling water channels as well as a higher capacity water pump. if the car was MANUFACTURED in the last two years, i.e. 1994 and 1995, these problems didn't persist as they fixed the problem. this engine gets a bad wrap for the issues faced early on: if you get the last two years of production though, you'll get an underpriced very good fully mechanical G!.......furthermore, as huss mentioned with the 606 conversion possibilities, makes the prospects of owning one of these so much sweeter.....

Re: gd350

hi hus,

no complaints here. yes, the red one doesn't actually belong to me any more: I had very heavy heart when that left our driveway. however, life goes on.
