Ohhh Nice find and not a bad price.
Anyone considering this, living in London should also think about applying for congestion charging exception as it has the jump seats in the back.
Though, be careful as the Mobile antennae may not mean you get easy access to car parks.....
Spider1V
would definately had brought his one if i was still living in the uk....
very very nice indeed ! i would say that the paint is very dull, and the surface swirl marks hide the true colour is which obvious when you look at the rear panel where the rear washer nozzle is . flourescent lights show up all the defects...
leather looks good too, despite tonnes of stp sun of the gun turning the anthracite leather to black !
i must say that i personally like this dash to all others that followed , its so very w126 in qaulity..
mate, i would loved to have given spider a race in this !!
hope someone from gwoa buys it [battersea lpg could convert this beast to lpg and saved on fuel bills]

Love the interior of mine. The fact it is dated only adds to the function appeal.
Furthermore, it is solid and has the 'cut from a single block of granite' feel that all old Mercedes had.
Few 11-year old cars have such a feeling of quality and are rattle free - most would have shaken themselves to death by now.
Did these cars go through an axle and chassis overhaul in 1999, meaning this car is from before that date ? Is there any difference between the 1998 and 2001 G500s ?
Thanks in advance
Sorry, another question: did this model have ESP ?
Thanks
There was a substantial interior change in 2001. The chassis remained unchanged. This G is built before the change, you can see one clear picture of the old style dash. It has the large press button rather than Command that the new ones have. The new ones have esp, the above ones doesn't but does have abs
Many thanks, much appreciated.
No all the chassis and axle remain the same even up to date!
The 98-2001 G500 models did not have ESP either!
Only the new interior models did, And yes they were Left hand Drive versions, Oct 2010 RHD version for the U.k had the ESP.
Is there any change to the 1998 to 2001 model? yes there is and below are the points based on a 2000/01 uk rhd G500 version
1. 2000/1 have Front windshield gutters left and right side
2. 2000/1 Standard Mercedes Side steps
3. 2000/1 Multifunctional illuminated steering wheel
4. 2000/1 Bigger digital dash in centre/left+right that tell you nav directions, language, mpg cal, elec fault computer etc
5. 2000/1 had Lumber supprt on elec seats
6. 2000/1 had illuminated door entry sills with 'mercedes benz' stated on them.
7. 2000/1 well etc etc
It was Autumn 2001 Mercedes-Benz had equipped all model G-class's with Electronic stability control. On face lift interior models in Left hand drive form. - P.s. this is from a book, not my words but Mercedes-benz!
p.p.s. If you are referring to the newer interior 2001 ONWARDS model IN LHD - Yes, they have ESP.
just as a matter of interest, the 463 g wagen was badged 3OOGEL from 91 up until 96 when it was re badged as G3OO. during whuch time the 463 saw its first mechanical overhaul so i was told the other day by my local mercedes dealership assitant service manager who is smitten by the g wagen ! the shafts are apparently different from 96 onwards... my G is also 96 and noticeably quieter than the pre 96 model. airbags were also introduced then for the first time...
Drive shafts changed late 94' onwards, I know this as I replaced a 95 300GEL'S, And found that the one I changed which was the one from the Gearbox to Transfer case was differen't with one having the 'grease nipples' and one not.
Also a 300, G320, G350, G400 to G500 axles do change a lot as each gearbox is differen't leagnths.!
The rebadging was from 93' onwards(From a mercedes book as I write) for example 300gel to g300, I've been through this a few times, 96-RHD G's were made during late 94-95, kept at Mercedes-benz then 96-97 rhd were registered as P-96 and so on.
Fixwin- can tell you more on that if you need to know.
Goochie,
My 98 has windshield gutters, side steps, lumbar and illuminated cills. Only diff is the multifunction wheel/dash
never seen a g badged G300 on a k plate gooch. shafts were changed when the badges changed so i was told by the mb dealers in south cyprus.
Hi I mean't after 09th August 93's Not 92-K plates, say after august 10th DVLA issued the L'reg, that's when they became effective.
I had a X3 G300 really on 94's, And i've seen one 93'L with G300 badge.
That's just info, the facts are coming from a Genuine G'wagon book I and Mark have called the ''Legend keeps on Driving'' Sorry.
Ask FIXWIN too as I pointed out earlier, he could shed some more light on the matter.
To me really dosen't matter weather it's a 300gel or G300, they are all W463's no differen't when you see them in the flesh.
Regards
G
I have a December '93 L reg which is badged 300GE, must have just missed being badged as a G300. Maybe I should change the badges to make it worth more!!
hi gooch, you know G history pretty well ! it seems a bit strange though that there are a few L plate G's marked 300GEL and not G300.maybe they were in compounds , unsold and only registered a few years after being imported.visually theres not really a change in appearance, only badge i guess as my G came with dark bumpers and mirrors. they were colour coded later on . interior trim, standasrd burr walnut and few other things changed. to sum it up. unless you are a true G nut case you wouldnt notice any difference.
fixwin did say that my G was one of only 6 RHD 463's to leave the production line in that year.
bigblock, change your bagdes my friend !
