Mercedes-Benz is donating a fleet of G Wagons, Unimogs and Zetros trucks to help with the aftermath of the Japanese earthquake.

I wonder if they will be RHD, if I remember correctly it is illegal to use a left hand drive vehicle in Japan. Although they obviously have a bit more to worry about than that at the moment.

lhd cars in Japan are the vehicles of choice for the Yakusa, haven't you seen Black Rain with lots of ultra cool lhd Mercs with blacked out windows

How do you know they are LHD if they have blacked out windows?

most of the Gwagen population in Japan are indeed LHD
i guess most japanese consider LHD vehicles as a 'premium' one, instead of your average run of the mill car/truck anyone can just buy at any dealer

My 463 has blacked out windows. Does that link me to the Yakuza? I just got fed up with driving about in a conservatory. Got called a spiv the other day as a result. Been called a lot of things but never a spiv before.
Apparently the Yakuza are doing a huge amount for the relief effort over there. Even the authorities have had to concede they are doing a good job. Read an article about them two days ago

Re: G Wagons to help in Japan.

if it were lhd and you were Japanese Yakusa living in Japan then yes but otherwise no. My comment was a little flippant and only related to half a dozen blacked out Merc saloons in the Ridley Scott film but they were lhd and lhd does have a cachet in Japan. However the gangsta image of the G-wagen is alive and well in both Europe the USA and the UK; as the repainted black, chromed, matt finished and Hamman Taifun vehicles amply demonstrate.

Yep! You're right. That is a bit OTT. Mine is always covered in mud so it rather spoils the gangsta effect. Don't get many hardcore gangstas here in the countryside

Very rare G, I had actualy never heard of a G60. Must be based on the 500GE since it only has the two diff locks.

For sale in Japan at around £35k although with only 46k miles and in what appears to be perfect condition. How many 6.0 litre AMG engined G Wagons did they build ?

I think I read somewhere that 12 were built, as you say based on the 500GE.
There was one for sale in east Europe if I'm not mistaken, not so long ago, additionally customised.

Yep, that's an extremely rare 500GE 6.0 AMG (M117 E60).

I don't think they made more than five or six of those.

This one is a different kettle of fish.... it predates the 15th anniversary 500GE by a few months and apparently is one of only two 500GEs made using the M117 engine on G320 vehicles directly in Affalterbach by AMG.... as opposed to the 500GE which was finished in Graz.

That red one was built in late 1995-WDB46323117103564, the original owner had two of them(before he was arrested for tax frauds), at least two more such were built in light blue color. Those cars have a 5litre M117 engine, like the 500GE. As far as I know there is a similar one in Sweden with a 6litre engine.
