Hi to all,  I'll be honest. I've only been lurking on this site for about a month. I needed a 4x4 as I'm living in Wales and will need it in winter and to get to my home. I had seen a few G's around and they looked very solid and stylish in a Merc kind of way.
I have two older Mercs already which both have the M110 2.8l petrol engine so the choice was simple. The only problem was the budget. These are still expensive for cars which are over 25 years old and with 100k miles. Anyway......I found a really nice looking original car with full service history and 94k on the clock. The car has been very well looked after but appears to have been little used recently so needs some parts to make it drive much nicer..
It is an 1984 280 GE with LWB in a Astral Silver. It was supplied with an aircon unit which I think is aftermarket but was fitted early on or at purchase. It works well and lives under the centre console. It's nicely done. The interior sold it to me as I had not seen the small check interior anywhere else. It is near perfect. I bought some covers 1st thing to protect them from my ' Lazlo' a big Hungarian Viszla who dribbles on command. Just need some nice floor mats to protect the original vinyl now and of course a dog guard.

thanks to all who have helped me so far. I hope to see you on the road somewhere.

Very nice indeed. I'm in west Pembrokeshire (black 280GES), where are you?

Nice G .. looks original apart from someone redoing the black bits outside in black (should be a dark grey matt finish). If the bodywork is as good as it looks.. well kept, (almost too good.. maybe a silver respray covering some little bits of rust as it looks so clean.)

Wish mine was that good when I got it.

Ref http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/category/Heating__Air_con_and_Ventilation/Heat_AC,b.html?page=2        a/mkt aircon...these units [origins are usa hot rod market , item widely availble last 40 yrs]
They make an ideal u/dash fitting in a G...all the mb engines easily take a  factory compressor and there are plenty of pattern condensors on the web ,plumb it up COLD air.

Let us hope that this is a dry stored example....check around rear arches...those plastic flares trap corrosion...maybe a good  earlier filler + respray ??

Not to carp this looks great in the pics but dont let Axel near it...he is always looking for clean 460 lwb 280's to do things to...

Cheers, thanks. I'd say that the paint is 90% original. I found receipts for touch up work to the door shuts and rear end.
There is evidence of filler on some panel joins here but it is very rust free and not recently done.
The chassis is solid. I'm keeping the seats covered.
I'm on the Welsh borders near Oswestry

Huh? really?*!. ... for all 460/461s that look black they are actually that RAL dark grey?

I have just carefully returned what where colour coded grill, bumpers and flares on my 460 to a flat Satin black.

I've been taking inspiration from the 2009 461 PUR edition which honestly looks like it is black
