G Floor mats
i'm looking for some rubber or carpet floor mats for my 1984 w460 LWB.
I have seen some on-line for 1990 car or 07 onwards but none for my car.
I think it should be a 3 piece set (full width one in the rear)? Would one from a w463 be the same?
If I cant find a set I'd like the front mats. Would some from a w124 car fit or from an SL perhaps.
Looking for black or beige or rubber with non slip backs ideally?
Del
Hi Del
MB list floor mats for the W463 but nothing for the W460 anymore.
My personal impression is that they would be very similar if not the same but would be open to further input from others?
I have listed only LWB although SWB are listed in the brouchure if anyone requires the info?

As for mats from the other models, the rears will be of no use obviously, the fronts may be OK but are all very tailored to fit each model so will not fit perfectly. I guess some from a 126 or 140 S Class will be closest for physical size?
When the W460 was current production the rubber mats available were pretty much universal across the MB range and you cut and trimmed them to fit each model depending on needs. The were designed with lines built into the pattern and each contoured to a model.

Hi Del
Yes all these are 463's
The velour mats are OK for on road use, the rep mats are the ribbed type and quite hardwearing and will be OK for all but the extreme use.
Rubbers are a more versatile all round option. I am guessing that if you are even considering mats to protect the original flooring that you will not be using the G for anything too extreme and therefore not be needing to steam clean the inside?

.......although SWB are listed in the brochure if anyone requires the info?
I would, many thanks, Ian.

Thanks Gav,
Looks like it's velour or velour. Pity, I would have liked some tof the ribbed jobs.
Cheers,
Ian
Hi Ian
Yes, that’s the sign of the times I guess....
The older G owners tend not to buy accessories like this in the network, either because of...
a) The dealers don’t want to help
b) They see them as too expensive
c) Other generic options are more readily available on the net
The newer G owners in the main only want a carpet mat to keep their G sparkling because...
a) It cost so much in the first place they dare not take it off road
b) It will never go anywhere near off road unless on a kerb near a school
Anyway if it is just used for real off road all the time, mats are a bit pointless anyway?
MB in the main will only stock accessories to a demand...they will launch a new product with back up stocks but if there is not sufficient sales then they will eventually reduce the stock and then make it obsolete. The newest 460's are now circa 23 years old and demand was never really there in the first place!!!
As for the 463, MB have sold only 14 sets of mats in the last 12 months across the whole range of 17 part numbers I have listed for the SWB and LWB models, I know there are not too many G’s out there but that is still not a lot.

Hi All
Just a quick note on this one, i know that the UK RHD market is a small market for the G Wagen for MB and this would make sense of the low volumes of mats sold, talked about later.
One thought did cross my mind though, nowhere in the accesory brochure listings does it state RHD / LHD for the mats.
Obviously with them being tailored to the model then they must be!
I have asked the question of MB but wont get an answer back soon so if anybody wants to order some they need to check with their dealer first to make sure that the dealer is happy the part number is LHD / RHD as appropriate.
I will post my reply as soon as i have it.... don't hold you're breath!
Gav
Slightly used rubber sets do pop up on occasionally on ebay.de but as previously stated, not sure of the compatibility between LHD/RHD, I don't think MB re-engineered the rubber mats for the massive UK market :-)
If quality is paramount and cost periferal, take pattern g-wagen mats to your local carpet wharehouse and chose the carpets you want, cut to shape. They should be able to organise the machined edges like they do for carpet samples.
Thanks Gav. So all the listed mats are for 463 G's?
How hard wearing are the velour and rep mats. I think I have seent the rep mats. Are they ribbed carpet?
