Hi all,

I would like to extend my distance-between-fuel-stops range by fitting an auxiliary tank. I have seen that there are basically two different types available: inside the cabin and outside the cabin. I have a LWB 500 (built 1999) and am most interested in the outside-cab-chassis mounted under the rear seats tank/between the transferbox one that ORC has. Although it is only 70-75l, it doesn't inhibit ground clearance at all (unlike the WOICK 95l one). As both of these options are very expensive, my question really is, is there a cheaper/as good version to be bought anywhere and has anyone got any experience of these? Comments greatly appreciated.

Thanks/ph

The only advice I can offer is don't even think about retro-fitting the original MB wheel arch mounted system. Very prone to rust. Very complex venting system. Not worth the hassle.
Regret not familiar with the ORC tank but would like to know more too.
Eddie.

Re: auxiliary fuel tanks

I just started follwing this post, I to am looking for an aux fuel tank.  My work takes my out to some really remote locations in Colorado and Wyoming (USA)  I typically carry fuel in 20L cans but want a better more integrated solution.  I have searched online for Aux tanks but have found nothing, hear in the states Gs' are as common as thin people.  Any direction as to who sells Auxilliary fuel cells for the G class or any othe commments are much appreciated.

The Australian Military (461) G-Wagens are all being fitted from the factory with a 2nd tank to increase fuel capacity. While I do not have any details, I do know that they are fitted within the chassis rails in about the middle of the vehicle. I think someone mentioned to me that they had probably used an existing tank from another Mercedes-Benz vehicle. You may be able to check this out via the EPC if you can pull up the Military Spec. vehicles.
