My G is coming up for its insurance renewal so I thought I'd phone round and see what deals could be had.
I now pay £300 with Morethan, which is comprehensive but no modifications allowed.
As my G is going to be quite heavily modified I rang Adrian Flux who advertises in G-wizz, thinking I'd get a good quote..................
After a few minutes on the phone to a nice lady who asks me a lot of questions about the modifications the quote is.................................£860.- and an excess of £200,- :(
After I had picked myself up from the floor she asks me if i want to go ahead with them?
Erm, I'll call you back.
Then I ring Roadsure, with all the modifications they will insure it for, wait for it.................
£145,- and a £100,- excess :D
Both these quotes are based on a 1989 300GD SWB and for comprehensive cover with a value of £2500,-
How can there be such a big difference in quotes and as For Adrian Flux saying they have special G-wagen policies, I think not!

Anyway, I thought this might be usefull to other G-wagen owners who are shopping round for insurance.

regards

Richard

You guys make me sick ! I just acquired my New G i.e. a nice Red 1988 280 GES. I obtained a great deal here in Ireland having shopped around. Wait for it....... Euro 950 fully comp. That is about £650. They also said that they could accomodate my 21 year old daughter on the policy, third party only for another Euro 2,500, circa £1,700. She already has her own Policy with 3 years no claims and is a named driver on my other G.

Insurance in Ireland is such a rip-off. I have a total of 4 cars insured over here. Whatever you do don't blame the Personal Injury Solicitors - I am one of them. It is pure greed on behalf of the Insurance Industry.

If only I could get Motor Insurance over in the UK that would be valid here !

I've got a fully comp Norwich Union deal that covers me "almost" anywhere in the world and has European and North Africa breakdown coverage. Its insured for theft at £12k. I live in a part of London that supposedly has one of the highest premiums, I've got a foreign license, and have had a small fender bender. Its costing me just over £650 - which to put it in perspective for everyone who is paying a paltry £200 is about a 1/3 of the next best rate I could get. My wife is also insured on it.

Supposedly my insurance could be as low as £200 if I had a UK license.

A friend had the exact same insurance for his brand new D90 and was living in France and they still insured him. He was paying just over £300.

So if they'll cover him in France, maybe they'll do you in NI.

Call Harvery Pettitt & Partners. Speak to Marting Pettitt 020 7226 8846. And I didn't have to spend 15mins explaining to him what a G was - he knew right away.

maxwell, I also have a foreign license. As long as it is EU they cant and are not allowed to give you a higher premium than when you have a UK license.
(That must be the worst construced sentence, ever  )

Thanks, except mines Canadian.... and the only reason I haven't switched yet is Canada is the ONLY country where the DVLA will only switch the license for a UK Automatic license... they don't even consider the Yanks unworthy enough to get an Auto only license.

And 3 guesses as to what transmission I've got on my G.....

For clarification purposes, the HIGH quote for Insurance was for the Republic of Ireland not Northern Ireland, where I believe such quotes would be laughted at.

Top Marks for the tip on Roadsure, just rung round for insurance on mine.

36 yr old, clean licence, NN11 postcode, 1 claim for third party non-fault in Sept 03, 3K limited, value £1000. Cover is fully comp, UK and Europe breakdown, full legal, £100 excess and £60 windscreen.

Premiums came back as follows:
Flux, who I am with already: £336
Carole Nash who I am also with already: £186
Peter Best: £129 if I join the Mercedes Owners Club for £35 + £13 for legal
and
Roadsure: £125 all in, no joining anything

What a bargain, paid them on Tesco Visa so get clubcard points too! :)
