Don't worry about not having ABS, it's at it's least helpfull in snow / icey conditions.

Don't know if I would agree with that, lock wheels can't turn corners...

Yes, thats right, and in practically every road condition ABS works as you would expect, but not in most snowy conditions, and certainly not on ice. The pulsing (on / off) of the brake is so rapid that the wheels remain locked, so even with ABS you can't turn on ice. On ice you keep control of a vehicle with ABS the same as a Vehicle without ABS, by cadence braking..

I would agree that cadence breaking is best, but I would not say that not having ABS is better than having it when on ice/snow. I've driven extensively in snowy conditions and would still rather have it than not in the winter, especially when combined with a good pair of winter tires....

Agree completely. I'm not suggesting your better off without ABS, just saying there are times (very few) when it is of little or no assistance. Yes, having the correct tyres is always helpfull, it's just that hardly anyone uses them around here.

I've noticed that! I was saying in the other post about driving on snow that I had never seen an 18 wheeler with tires spinning for lack of grip before on only a very very slight incline - normally their weight can get them through most anything.

They don't even seem to use 4 seasons yet alone winter tires...

Do you remember the M11 last year when the snow brought it to a standstill for 24 hours due to snow. That was due to no knowedge of tyres or ice driving . It's fairly rare to see those conditions down south though

Do I remember that?!?!? I was stuck in it! A 1.5hr journey that should of taken 2.5-3hrs tops in those conditions, ended up taking 7 hours. The result? I missed my wife's birthday....
