Just heard some news from a source working for Daimler Chrysler here in Oz. It got me very excited in the first instance but this was fairly quickly checked when I gave the news more thought.

As you would be aware Australia has only seen about 300 G's sold here officially and these were in the early 80's. Neither the 461 or the 463 was ever sold here. You can imagine my delight to here that the G was under evaluation for sale in Australia in 2006. Great I thought, just enough time to sell everything I own, put the kids out to work etc. but then my jaw dropped to think that it will be the "new" G that we are all dissappointed in - based on the photos doing the rounds.

There has been some glimmer of hope in that my source felt that the decision would probably (again - as in the 80's) be dependent on the Australian Army ordering G's and I cannot imagine them ordering the new look G. Perhaps the 461 will continue being built, based on the Army purchases around the world and RHD may again be an option in this model if that is the case.

Let's hope so -- I will need to update eventually!

For what it is worth. John

Well I imagine that the Army would only be looking at the military version 461 like the Canadian's have just ordered. They have ordered something like 6-800. If the Aussie army went for that in RHD and so did the British Army then yippie.270 CDI in permanent 4WD in a practicle body. Yes please
