Flat battery! Cant open doors....
My battery has gone completely flat and as a result I cant open the doors to get to the bonnet release to get to the battery!!
Anyone have any Ideas other than breaking a window.
Cheers
The key should still open the doors mechanically. Have you tried all 3? 2 fronts and the rear one? Put wd40 in the lock if it is stiff. Certainly no need to resort to violence :)
I can not quite tell, for my "Mr. Mgoo eyes"; it looks like that yours' is a W463. It could well be that the key holes are inserted with a key hole cover.
You may need to withdraw this and use use keys to unlock your vehicle, or it could be the remote's battery that is flat. Are the lights' on the fob functioning?
Cheers.
Aso I think the battery compartment is on the near side wheel arch in the back of the car. Recharging points are in the bonnet area and will be two distinct points to connect to. (well it is on my 463)
If there is a black disk in your drivers side lock you will need to take it out and you should be able to use the key to unloc the door.
Best of luck

Hello Paul,
Would like to know if yours' is a Petrol or a Diesel?
Was your vehicle standing for about two weeks? If so, the battery will go flat. I would suggest a slow charge to full, and get the battery tested, the modern battery testers can indicate the state of battery.
Should you infrequently use your vehicle then, I suggest fitting to the battery terminal, a cut-out switch (less than a fiver) so that the battery can be isolated when not in use. Of course, that brings issues of alarms immobilsed and other related matters. That needs a rethink.
If you need Battery replacing, I can give details of a Battery warehouse you can order on line. They are fairly competitive. But I need to know if your are a 'petrol head' or a 'wiesel'?
Batteries are only fitted in one location, either the engine compartment or at the near-side rear wheel arch unless there has been a custom fit of a second battery employing battery convertors for charging purposes.
Cheers,
I used to leave my 230GE 460 for weeks, even months without starting it, and the battery was always fine. About the only drain on it is the internal clock on the centre console, and the feed for the car radio (to hold the memory). No alarm to feed etc.
I left an internal light on once and it drained the battery in about 48hrs. Same for a parking side light.
The W460's had comparatively basic electrics in terms of current consumption.
The latter W463's consume more current with any alarm systems fitted and also the remote or central locking systems, these have radio technology; I have had BMW owners argue that a BMW can stand for much longer before the Battery goes down. I have to agree with them, that being the case the M/Benz design does use more power I am afraid and they do go flat after two or three weeks without use.
Regards,
Thanks to all of you for your speedy response.
I managed to get in through the boot in the end. None of the door locks were working with the keys then all of a sudden the boot worked...... Very strange. Once we had the bonnet open and the battery disconnected for re-charging, I tried the key in the drivers door again and it worked fine. It was as if the battery had had enough power to make the solenoid resist the turning of the key, but not enough to work it.
I don't have a remote for the locking so I always have to use the ole "key in the door" routine.
Its a W463, 92 J reg. SWB.
Is there another battery in the back somewhere then, as well as the one under the bonnet?
I think it may be time to buy a new battery, the one in it is a 61AH, is it worth getting a bigger one? If yes, how big.
Cheers
Paul
