Fan Noise
Hi Guys,
I have noticed that the fan on my 463 stays on at all times and has become a little noisey any idea what this may be?

Hi
What model is it and what year?
Chassis number would be helpful
and i assume you mean the engine fan rather than the heater fan?

I tend to tell my fans to keep quiet and only clap and cheer on my say so.
Hope this helps...

Hi
So it's the M103 6 cylinder petrol and running the viscous type fan...
Assuming its not a mechanical noise i.e. something catching or rubbing then i would think that the viscous coupling has failed and is locked on and hence running all the time?
Have you had the vehicle a long time?
If so has it only just started doing this?
I would think a new viscous coupling may be required
You can test to see if it is working easily enough, but with the engine cold, if the fan is spinning at great speed then it is probably goosed, they do however obviously spin at lower speeds all the time but should only engage fully when the engine temperature reaches a prescribed level.
If it has failed and is locked in, then no real harm can happen other than less MPG as it's draining power.

How much do you have to pay them?
Hi
Vicsous Coupling is probably A103 200 11 22 @ £165 + vat MB Germany have stock
Let us know how you get on

My fanbelt failed on A3 this morning.. fortunately I had a spare ad a couple of spanners so 15 mins and I was back on the road.. I noticed that my visco clutch seems to have failed again though.. irritating since I only replaced it last year before last
I wonder if the old story about not laying them down on their side is true (it was mailordered) and its failed because of this.
I know that they can be refilled - I looked at doing it last year.. but too much trouble and the whole point about these things is that they shold last a long time..
Suggestions (other thank Kenlow, which TBH I'm now having anotyher think about for the 606)
