Can anyone recommend a company around the Hampshire area that would fabricate a new exhaust system. I am not prepared to pay MB prices and want a  stainless one. I have found a company in Basingstoke who will make one and I am sure it would be fine but just wondered first whether anyone has a company they would recommend

Re: Exhausting

Hi :-)

Edge Performance in Aldershot are about to make me a full system and were reccommended by a friend who owns Hawthorns (performance car dealer) in Farnham (they do all of their exhaust and fabrication  work for their customers).

Edge were estimating around £350-400 for an OEM replacement with SS box - a bit more if you want something different (3" pipes, bypasses or fabrication for side exits as I want) or to have the entire the entire thing done in stainless.

Re: Exhausting

You don't need the majority of the factory exhaust system. The final box can be deleted completely, and an exhaust box instead of the cat too if your car was built before August 1992 [most early ge300's were, even if registered later, my K plate was actually built in October 1991]

I have a silencer in place of the cat and a small central box, then straight out but realistically the small center box could go too. I did at one point just have a straight pipe instead of the cat but it was a little noisey but what a note!

Re: Exhausting

fcp- please let me know what you think of the end product as it has been suggested to me that I try to make mine last the winter and get a new one in the spring.
prwales= thanks for hte info. Will not go for any MB bits as they are so expensive. I think it will be easier just to get a whole new one fitted. That way I can forget about it for years hopefully

Re: Exhausting

 PRWales, Audiominx's is a 300GD not a 300GE if it makes a difference

Re: Exhausting

Many years ago, I ordered the 2 main exhaust boxes from MB in the USA.   They shipped from Germany to there.  I was on  a trip there the following month and brought both bits back wrapped in brown paper.   Declared one of them and paid some duty.  Result was a half price exhaust.

Now - I doubt this is even a remote possibility.  It was just a crazy circumstance of the time, and anyway, I am not sure that $ prices are much cheaper than GBP these days.   Is second hand an option?

Re: Exhausting

Is all your exhaust shot? Your exhaust is  probably original and you can replace in sections, I have done this ,  though I have had o braze downpipe no2 due to a failure.
The advantage of the MB system is its very quiet, if your SS exhaust place can guarantee it to be as quiet as the original  go for it, though when I enquired with JP ( the original bespoke stainless specialists there quote was on a par with MB) though did include fitting and a lifetime guarantee.Thouugh I couldn't  afford it all in one go.
