Hi, does anyone know the differences between the colour codes of engine mounts? There is grey, green, yellow etc. Thanks.

Re: Engine rubber mounts

I have tried to research the answer, but without success.  The local dealers have been unable to answer the question either, so the question has been put to M/Benz customer services - no guarantees for an answer though; I am still waiting on another answer from them, to a question,  put to them over a month ago now.

Will get back I I hear something.

Re: Engine rubber mounts

Thanks for going to the trouble Rakesh. I believe it's something to do with the rubber hardness, but not sure. Cheers Scott.

Re: Engine rubber mounts

I have no idea, but...

I had my G fitted with the 500GE (1994) mounts, which i am told that are the longest-lasting.

Re: Engine rubber mounts

Some colour coding is related to which side the mount goes, which in turn might be related to the material for a given side (e.g. one side needs to be more heat resistant than the other in case its near the exhaust manifold?  But that don't get you much further yet.

Re: Engine rubber mounts

Surprisingly, M/Benz technical have got back to me with an answer but they got it  wrong.  Thier reply was relevant to coil springs rather than engine mounts; I have asked them to redress the answer, so still waiting.

Re: Engine rubber mounts

Hi

Cant find anything on MB WIS for the colours at all.

On MB EPC it lists the colours but does not state the difference.

But seems they go on a combination of component weights

i.e.
Engine 4/5/6 or 8 cylinder
Gearbox Man or Auto
Wheelbase 2400/2850/3120 or 3400
Body type Con/Wagon/Van or Pick up
etc etc...

i.e
A 4 Cyl Man 2400 Con will have Green
A 8 Cyl Auto 2850 Wagon will have White
and all variations between.... all V8's seem to run White

I can only guess that it is the strength or rating and in the following order weakest to strongest

Green A460 240 66 18
Yellow A460 240 67 18
Blue A460 240 68 18
Unknown A460 240 69 18
White A460 240 70 18

These are not handed

This is only my opinion however

Thanks

Gav

Re: Engine rubber mounts

I have heard from M/Benz technical and this is the statement they gave:

"We have noted your enquiries and consulted once more with our Technical Support.
They have advised, however, that unlike the suspension, the engine mountings
hold no information regarding the relevance of any colour coding.

We are sorry we are unable to assist you further with this enquiry but should
you have any further requirements please do not hesitate to contact us."

Normally, I would not be unduly bothered with this question, but it is bugging me now, I will write to the Stuttgart and the assembly line to find out.

Cheers,

Re: Engine rubber mounts

Hi

A bit more info with referance to Engine / Gearbox Mountings

I hope it is useful to someone

*****************************************************************************************************************************************************
This is a listing of the different Engine Mounting options that I can find. They relate to all W460 / W461 / W463 Chassis vehicles. The prices and availability were correct as of 09.01.12 from MBUK and their dealers. The different colours relate to different load rates. These for example are the major colours for the front and rear engine mounts. The front mountings are not usually handed with the exception of the more powerful diesels and some of the early W460 / W461’s, the mountings covered are the rectangular type not the very early round ones used on the first of the W460 models.

This list is for reference and as a guide only. Please get the Part Number checked out to your Chassis Number before ordering or fitment. They are not in any rating order at all.

GUIDE INDEX NOTES

NCA = Not Currently Available. This could mean that MB Germany are temporarily out of stock, there is a quality issue and the parts are being withheld or they are not available at all either due to being too new and not stocked yet or too old and not stocked any more.

S/S TO = This Part Number supersedes to the number mentioned afterwards therefore for example “A220 240 04 18 COLOUR RED AUTO TRAN £NA S/S TO A212 240 03 18” the first number is superseded to the second number and is a straight replacement.

MB Germany = Stock is currently held at the Mercedes Benz Global Logistic Centre (GLC) at Germersheim in Germany.

MB UK = Stock is currently held at the Mercedes Benz European Logistic Centre (ELC) at Milton Keynes in England.

Colour = Colour stated is the coloured stripe found on the mounting i.e. YELLOW = YELLOW stripe.

Price = Prices quoted are current MB UK Retail prices as of 09.01.12 and are subject to VAT at 20%.

Duplicate = Some colours are duplicated. Where this happens I will try to determine the technical difference or application or model designed for.

£NA = Price is currently Not Available.

Re: Engine rubber mounts

Thank you for that information Gav.  For someone who is supposed to be recuperating, you are either bored or working hard, be it with your fingers (as opposed to physical activity)

I am still waiting from Mercedes Benz on the original question, that is if they answer, I think not.

Cheers,
