Door Locking Actuator
Anybody know if a 2 wire actuator can be used in the rear door of a '94 463, or do I have to use a 5 wire like the original?
Unfortunatly i am not going to answer your issue, just put some info your way
If you were to buy a new actuator....this is working on a late 300GE 1993...
On a SWB all 3 (2 Fronts 1 Tailgate) list as the same part number A004 820 24 42
On a LWB 3 (2 Fronts 1 Tailgate) list as the same part number A004 820 24 42
the 2 Rears list as 004 820 25 42
That would leave me to believe that you could swop then around on a SWB from door to door, same part for same part.
On a later 90's G500...
On a SWB 2 (Front Passenger and Tailgate) list as the same part number A004 820 25 42
the Drivers front list as A004 820 24 42
On a LWB 4 (Front Passenger 2 Rears and 1 Tailgate) list as the same part number A004 820 25 42
the Drivers front list as A004 820 24 42
However in reality most say that the Tailgate Actuator is physically different and wont swop over, were talking Actuator here and not the linkage which is different on the rear.
Simplistic answer would be that a 5 wire unit could be swopped to where a 2 wire should be but not vice versa? Not utilising the extra 3 wires....
There seems to be some difference in set up from "standard" central locking to Burglary Alarm System and Infrared Closing System options...depending on whats fitted...
PM me your chassis number and i can see whats fitted, they are not too expensive new anyway?

Your right .. 5 wire means you can sense the key moving... 2 or 3 wire means it is just a dumb actuator.
If you got it right you could use a 2 wire. Should be able to leave the 3 spare wires un-used but have half a fear you have to connect through some wires as it is not a clear as this; e.g. Guessing 2 wires go to coil.. direction of connection decides if coil goes up/down. The 3 wires will be a common power or earth which feed to 2 switches.. and those switches are moved by the key.
I stripped down my 5 way driver's door actuator and the circuit board was toast.... the passenger and rear door were only 2 wire on a SWB 1988.. the 5 wires were silly price (£230-250?) .. I managed to buy a 2 wire from ebay and then planned to retrofit a remote control + alarm that I have sitting around. Never found the central locking relay and never fitted the alarm/remote of course! Aftermarket 5 wire actuators are only £20 (get Swiss ones) but I could not easily install it up the door pillar as OEM so it seems too much non original to hack/mount one.
Hi
Without your chassis number, can't be 100% but
A004 820 25 42 are £61.50 + vat
A004 820 24 42 are £78.00 + vat
Both are readily available either in the UK or from Germany
Gav
German fleabay .. £55 used which is not worth it compared to Gavin's prices but shows me the 463 is a different beast;
Below is all about 460.. not the 463 which seems like it has a more mainstream fitment..
Hum.. I have for a 1988 460 swb .. parts from EPC using chassis number and old dutch site for prices;
A003 820 3242 = Slave/passenger central locking actuator = 73 Euro
A003 820 4910 = switch/driver central locking actuator = 180 Euro
Sub £100 I could stand.. £200 for a £20 item kind of got too rich for me. A search today show them at 287 Euro new or I found a used one for £129 which I might have taken but it is a window out strip down to fit.. a right pain!
Also had this in my notes which helps on the older systems like mine; http://www.mb4x4.co.za/forum/content.php/54-W460-230GE-Gelandewagen-Central-Locking-Repaired
And here is me and Fixwin going over it; http://www.gwoa.co.uk/node/8033
And on PointedThree; http://w.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.php?tid=19250&mid=201083
Hi
Yes the 460 is a different system
A003 820 32 42 is £86.50 + vat LEFT FRONT
A003 820 49 10 is £212 + vat RIGHT FRONT
A003 820 33 42 is £86.50 + vat TAILGATE

Thanks for info Gav. Have tried 2 wire actuator (tested good) A004 820 25 42 but it won't work.I think I'll have to buy the 5 wire job. Checked wires in loom in rear doorpillar and found damaged wires and thought I had a result, repaired wires but no difference. I think that any door that can be opened by key has a 5 wire actuator.
