Hi there, I didn't know where to post this question, does anyone else get wet feet when driving in the rain? our G wagon leaks something wicked and if we don't cover it thoroughly when it's raining the mat under the pedals get good and soggy also the tray in the centre at the front gets filled up with water, any ideas where it is coming in? we thought it was coming in through the windscreen seal but no, I have heard this is a common fault? is it? and if so, how can it be fixed please, we are looking to sell our G wagon so would like to sort this first.
Many thanks
Bea.

Hello Bea,

Sorry to hear that, you are selling your G-Wagen, hope it is not because of the leaks.

Your are correct in saying that, this common to the vehicle.  Most common area of leak emanates form either excessively worn wiper spindles or seized ones.  You can quickly confirm this; grab the base of the wiper arm and try and rock it up and down; having movement here confirms that the wiper spindles are the first source, there are other areas of leaks but the usual one to go for is the spindles.  There are kits available for the replacement of the spindles, however, there seems to be certain models that M/Benz will tell you that the parts are no longer available and that, you will have to buy the whole link.

To double check, that your are not being fobbed here, please provide your Chassis details by PM to me and I can check for you.  Please state the vehicle model and if it is LHD, please mention this too.

There is a reservoir of water build up in the heater matrix vent box.  If you here a shushing of water as you drive coming from the centre console area, you will have a blocked up drain plug in the vent box.  To clear the blockage, looking into the vent box and at the front right-base of the vent box there should be a rubber plug.  With a thin long stick or a rod of welding rod, prod into the rubber clearing it of any blockage any when this is achieved, collected water should drain out.

Cheers,

Hi there, and thanks for fast response, no, we are not selling because of leaks, hubby made redundant 3 years ago wasn't able to find another job (because of his age), now retired, sadly we can't afford to run the G-Wagon and another car, we don't want to sell but needs must.
I will try what you have suggested and let you know what happens.
Thanks again.

Just to let you know, yes the wiper arms both move easily so will see about getting those fixed.
Very many thanks.
Bea

PS. I may possibly put it on here when we decide to sell, at least then I will know it is going to a good home.

You're certainly not alone! Not however my next project, although it would be nice to get it cured - certainly the current weather is elevating its priority!!!! However as an ex-Land Rover Defender Owner I find 'just' wet feet still quite a pleasant change...?!?
