Is there a lot of difference between the WIS (of which lots of versions seem to be available from dubious sources online) and the hardcopy Workshop Service manuals that several people seem to have (but I understand aren't available any longer)?

Does anyone know of anyone who bought the set of hardcopy manuals from http://www.4x4abc.com/G-Class/collult460.html ?

Re: Difference between WIS and Service manuals?

Hello fcp,

True, no printed matter in the form of workshop manuals, owners manuals, maintenance manuals etc, etc... are no longer available.  The WIS (workshop information system) is the electronic replacement of that printed matter.  How, or what is printed in the CD versions and their parts; I have no idea.

Alternative access to WIS can be accessed from the Mercedes Benz service and parts portal on the web site.

You can sign on to subscribe to WIS from an hourly at  €4.00 per hour to over €1000.00 per annum.  Information accessed from this site will be up-to-date as can be, unlike the CD versions; here you have to constantly buy the updates.  I do not fully know the fundamentals of these.

On the other hand, I am currently, custodian to the printed version of the W460 maintenance manual and a CD version of the same.  It covers all the W460 models covered in the UK market only.

I have not seen or heard of the information from the advertised sites, I am aware some GWOA members have bought but have no feed back of their experiences.

Information given on the workshop manual, maintenance manual and technical data manual are different as they were designed to serve different purposes within the Mercedes Benz network.  Ideally, you want all manuals to have full information.  This, now is accessed from WIS.

If there is particular information you want, provided you are a fully paid up member, I can help you there.

Given, what I say, on the whole, generally, our Library information is very limited.  But, if you don't ask.....

Cheers,
