Diff lock

On my 463 300GD my dif locks come off by itself. After last weekend's play I used the locks at home, and they engage, but swith themselves off again. This can land me in serious trouble.

On my 460 this happened due to eroded pistons, but the 463 is electric. Anyone any experience with this?

Re: Diff lock

mjkirk is having similar problems, I do not know if this has been resloved.  The suspicion is on the diff control relay, at some £200 for the unit hence, we are trying for a more definative diagnoses.  I had promised some electrical diagrams on this, but still waiting on.

I will chase on this matter again.

Re: Diff lock

The 463 is a mix of vacuum and hydraulics. Sounds like you could be loosing vacuum, especially after your description of what went on last week

Re: Diff lock

Check the relays in the fuse box compartment. My guess is that the spade connectors need cleaning. If the centre diff loses the power to the relay it will turn all 3 locks off.

Re: Diff lock

Hi folks,  we had trouble with the diff locks on a mates 463, currently we've left the controller unplugged and he's had it back to carry on using it, it never goes off road. With the unit plugged in it would almost permanently engage the rear diff lock, and at odd times the centre one too. If we could get hold of a wiring diagram I'd get it back here and go through it properly just to be sure, but we did suspect the controller itself. As I say, it never sees any mud so theres no problem now its disconnected, but I'd like to sort it for my own satisfaction as much as anything. I did look at swapping the unit with my own 463(now sold) to test it, but it was completely different. My 92 diesel seemed to have just switches to control it, where his 94 petrol had this little ecu with the switches mounted in. Also the petrol one had an electric vacuum pump.  After that it looked the same, power going to solenoids, to let vacuum through to diaphragms, to work the hydraulics. If I learn any more I'll let you know, it does sound a bit like yours could be vacuum loss.
